Jayati Bhatia Reveals She Faced Delayed Payment Only ONCE In Her 30-Year Career

When asked if she ever faced any delayed payment in her career, Jayati Bhatia said, “Main toh aise producer ke saath kaam hi nahi karti jo payments mein takleef de. I have always worked and seen to it that I work with the right people. Pata nahi yeh bolte hi ulta hogaya, agla show ek strange producer ke saath kiya jo paise nahi dete the. Lekin aaj tak, in my 30 years, maybe sirf ek hi producer hua hai jinhone mujhe paise nahi diye. Pilot ke, aur chaar episodes ke bhi nahi diye. But that is the only instance in my entire career. Otherwise, till date, I have always got my full payment.”

She continued, “Haan, system thoda ajeeb hota hai. Aap aaj shoot kar rahe ho, maan lo September mein shoot kiya, toh pehla cheque January mein aata hai. It’s like 90 days credit, par actually 120–150 days ho jaata hai — lagbhag 4–5 mahine. Humne toh tab kaam kiya hai jab 45 days mein payment aa jaati thi, toh savings se manage ho jaata tha. Par jo naye actors hote hain, jinka pehla show hota hai — woh kaise manage karte hain 6 mahine bina payment ke? Woh hamesha tension mein rehte hain ki ‘6th month mein aa jayega na?'”

Jayati On Actors Struggles

She shared, “Jab pehla cheque aane wala hota hai na, sabki energy hil jaati hai, kyunki unhone apna rent, khana, ghar ke saare kharche ussi pe base kiye hote hain. Aur agar usmein bhi delay ho jaaye, toh dimaag kharab ho jaata hai. Ek toh 6 mahine baad paise mil rahe hain, upar se delay, aur phir aapko maangna padta hai — kyun? Jo date fix hai us par do na.”

The Heeramandi actress continued, “Mere saath kabhi paise cut nahi hue, na hi kabhi mile nahi — bas woh ek hi producer tha. Aur woh bhi pilot tha, toh unhone bola channel se paise nahi mile. Par woh meri galti nahi hai na — maine apne 4–5 din diye the. Maine 2–3 baar follow-up kiya, phir chhod diya. Jab baaki cheques aane lagte hain toh itna bura nahi lagta, par sabka aisa nahi hota. Bahut log struggle karte hain.”

Jayati Bhatia Advices Producers

The actress said, “Aur mujhe bahut problem hoti hai jab log bolte hain ‘thoda adjustment kar lo, 20% cut le lo.’ Kyun? Profit mein toh humein share nahi dete, toh loss mein kyun? Aapne humein actor ke taur par hire kiya hai — humein humara poora paisa milna chahiye. Producer ka rutba industry mein isliye hota hai kyunki woh team khadi karta hai. Unki backbone itni strong honi chahiye ki set par kaam karne wale har insaan ko pay kar sake. Agar nahi kar sakte, toh producer mat bano.”

She added, “Aur jab show khatam ho jaata hai, tab grace aur bhi zaroori hoti hai. Kyunki show band hone ke baad aapko next day actor ki zaroorat nahi hoti. Tab log bolte hain, ‘Sorry, payment nahi aayi, channel delay kar raha hai.’ Tab actor ko darr lagta hai — paise milenge ya nahi? Jab show chal raha hota hai, tab paise mil hi jaate hain eventually, kyunki kaam chal raha hota hai. Isliye maine hamesha un producers ke saath kaam kiya hai jinhone saalon tak prove kiya hai ki they pay on time and respect actors.”

She concluded, “Aur mere liye sabse important hai respect. Mujhe mere set par respect milti hai, aur wahi matter karta hai. Baaki kaun respect karta hai ya nahi, usse mujhe farq nahi padta. Aur main hamesha ensure karti hoon ki meri poori team saath mein kaam kare — shayad isliye kyunki main theatre background se hoon, aur mujhe teamwork bahut pasand hai.”

Jayati Bhatia is a seasoned TV actress celebrated for her iconic, long-standing portrayal of Nirmala “Mataji” Bharadwaj in Sasural Simar Ka (2011–2018). Her career, which began in 1995 with the show Challenge as Khushnuma, has spanned over three decades. She has appeared in notable serials such as Tu Tu Main Main, Kanyadaan, and Kasautii Zindagii Kay. She has also collaborated with Ekta Kapoor on early Balaji Telefilms productions like Kanyadaan and Itihaas.

Bhatia rose to household fame as the matriarch “Mataji” in Sasural Simar Ka, a role she played for seven years and later reprised in Sasural Simar Ka 2. Her versatility is evident through roles in popular serials like Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin and Kutumb.
