Karishma Tanna On Security After Saif Ali Khan’s Stabbing Incident

When asked if she lives in the same building as Saif Ali Khan, Karishma Tanna replied, “Nahin, unke opposite rehti hoon.”

Speaking of after the actor’s stabbing incident earlier this year, if there have been any security enhancements, Karishma said, “Haan, hua. Thank God, hua. And I was just telling this to my building society that, you know, we need to have tighter security. Yeh incident hone se pehle se hi main bol rahi hoon. Jab se main Bandra shift hui hoon, tab se bol rahi hoon. Because Bandra mein generally…I come from bigger buildings. Jahan main pehle rehti thi, aur uske pehle bhi jahan rehti thi, wahan proper societies hoti thi — A wing, B wing, C wing, proper intercom systems, bada sa garden. Toh kisi individual ke liye andar aana bahut difficult hota tha. Toh, I’m used to that kind of security and all that. And suddenly, when you come to Bandra, there’s no space in Bandra.”

She added, “Har building ek standalone building hai. Matlab, aap raste se enter karo aur seedha aapki building aa jaati hai, right? Toh main security isliye tight bol rahi thi, because mujhe lagta tha ki agar kisi ko bhi ghusna hai, woh fatt se ghus sakta hai, ‘Main SWIGGY se hoon, main falana se hoon… main upar jaa sakta hoon na?’ Toh bahut easy hai. Toh, where is that security? So I used to always keep my points to the society that we need strong security in our building, especially. And I used to get very worried ki standalone buildings mein kisi ke liye bhi proper security nahi hoti. Phir yeh incident hua, toh maine bola ki main toh keh hi rahi thi ki bhai security badhao. Toh ab jaake security badhi hai.”

About Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Incident

On January 16, 2025, Saif Ali Khan was attacked and stabbed multiple times by an intruder during an attempted burglary at his Bandra residence in Mumbai. The incident occurred around 2:00 AM on the 11th floor of his upscale apartment building, Satguru Sharan. The intruder, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national, allegedly entered the premises by scaling an adjacent wall and using a fire escape or drainpipe to access the apartment through a bathroom window.

A staff nurse, Eliyamma Philip, who was present with Khan’s younger son Jeh, first spotted the intruder and raised the alarm. When Khan confronted the armed man, a scuffle ensued, during which Khan was stabbed six times, including a deep wound near his spine. The intruder demanded Rs 1 crore from the staff before breaking free and fleeing the scene.

Khan, bleeding heavily, was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in an autorickshaw by his elder son Ibrahim Ali Khan and a staff member. He sustained serious injuries, including deep stab wounds to his neck, hands, and back, with a piece of the knife blade removed during a six-hour emergency surgery. Doctors later confirmed he was out of danger and discharged after five days. The Mumbai Police launched a major investigation, arresting Shariful Islam a few days later in Thane as he attempted to flee to Bangladesh.

The police determined the motive was attempted robbery, with the accused reportedly familiar with the building’s layout due to his work for a housekeeping agency. A chargesheet has been filed, and the case is progressing toward trial, with the police opposing bail due to substantial forensic evidence linking the knife fragments to weapons recovered from the scene.
