EXCLUSIVE: Kaveri Priyam On Choosing To Play Sonia In Dooriyan; Says, “I Tapped Into My Own Emotional Moments Of Self-Doubt”

Actress Kaveri Priyam has built a strong reputation for her versatile roles in shows like Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke and Ziddi Dil Maane Na. Known for consciously choosing projects that challenge her, she is now seen in Dooriyan, where she plays Sonia, a character as layered as she is intriguing.

For Kaveri, taking up this role was about stepping into a world of ambition, vulnerability, and emotional complexity that she hadn’t explored before. Kaveri shares with Bollywood Bubble, “What drew me to Sonia was her duality. She isn’t written in black and white. Professionally, she is ambitious, confident, and a boss-woman, but personally she is fragile, emotional, and sometimes even flawed. That contrast gave me so much scope to perform, because many women live in that balance between strength and fragility.”

Preparing for Sonia meant diving deep into both extremes of her personality. Kaveri explains, “I worked hard on her aura of authority, her posture, her voice, the way she commanded a room. But for her vulnerable side, I tapped into my own emotions and moments of self-doubt. Switching between these layers almost instantly was the real challenge.”

While Sonia’s obsession and heartbreak were the toughest shades to portray, Kaveri sees them as a rewarding stretch of her craft, she says, “Her obsessive streak is far from who I am in real life, but that’s why it fascinated me. As an actor, I love roles that push me out of my comfort zone and allow me to grow.”

Looking ahead, Kaveri hopes audiences embrace Sonia in all her shades, she says, “Even the strongest women can deeply fall in love, and being vulnerable doesn’t make them any less powerful. If viewers feel Sonia’s highs and lows, I’ll know I’ve done justice to her journey.”
