Director Anukalp Goswami believes Bollywood’s comedy landscape has drifted far from the clean, wholesome humour that once defined the ’90s and early 2000s. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, responding to criticism that today’s comedy films often resemble “cheap p*rn,” he explains that social media and stand-up culture have reshaped audience expectations. He argues, cinema is still a family experience—one where clean comedy continues to thrive. Goswami says the mass audience prefers wholesome entertainers in theatres. Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 Director Anukalp Goswami Comments On Rise Of Vulgar, Adult Comedies
When asked about the quality of Bollywood’s comedy films nowadays, with many films being called cheap porn, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 Director Anukalp Goswami said, “90s aur early 2000s mein family entertainers bante the, sacchi wali comedy, clean comedy. Aajkal logon ke liye criteria social media ho gaya hai. Stand-up mein log gaaliyan dekar jokes banate hain, toh audience ko lagta hai shayad film mein bhi wahi chalega. Lekin film ek family event hota hai. Puri family theatre jaa kar ek din celebrate karti hai.”
He continued, “Theatre mein aaj bhi clean comedy hi chalti hai, wahi logon ko pasand aati hai. Vulgar ya adult comedy ek limited audience ke liye hoti hai, phone par kisi ne thoda dekh liya, theek. Lekin mass audience theatre mein clean cinema hi dekhna chahti hai. Isliye maine yeh film banayi taaki logon ko pata chale ki aaj bhi India mein clean comedy ki value hai. Producers aisi film banana chahte hain. Writers aisi film likhna chahte hain. Aur audience aisi film dekhna chahti hai. Yeh film bilkul clean family entertainer hai.”
About Bollywood Films Being Called Cheap P*rn

They have ranged from a historical influx of soft-p*rnographic material to contemporary objections to ‘item numbers’ and overall content quality. A common point of criticism is the use of item numbers or the forced sexualisation of actresses.
