Following the success of Matka King, Kritika Kamra has officially locked her next feature film, Dumbbell (working title). For the unversed, the actress is all set to headline director Pushaan Mukherjee’s upcoming drama and will commence shooting for the same in June. While the actress preps for her part, an insider has shared details about the training she’ll undergo to look the part. They also shared with us details about the film’s second schedule. Positioned as Kritika Kamra’s next major creative step, Dumbbell is expected to showcase the actress in a distinctly new space, further strengthening her reputation for choosing layered, performance-driven projects. While the makers are maintaining confidentiality around the storyline, industry sources confirm that Dumbbell is being mounted as a drama, with Kritika taking on a role that is both physically and emotionally demanding and creatively refreshing.

Talking about the prep the actress will be undergoing to look the part, an industry source tells us, “Kritika has already started prep for Dumbbell, and the makers are approaching the film with a very detailed and immersive process. Over the next week, she will be extensively involved in script readings, character-building sessions, and workshops with the director and core creative team to fully understand the emotional graph and tonality of the role. Following that, she will spend close to two weeks undergoing a physical transformation process, as the character demands a certain physicality and endurance, much in line with what the title of the film suggests.”

Talking about the film’s shooting schedules, the insider continued, “The film is slated to go on floors in Mumbai by mid-June, where the first schedule will be shot. Post that, the unit will move to another city in July for the second leg of filming. The makers are planning the shoot across two extensive schedules, and a lot of attention is being given to the prep and world-building before principal photography begins. Kritika is extremely excited because this role allows her to tap into a completely new space as a performer.”

With principal photography begins next month, Dumbbell marks the beginning of a significant new phase for Kritika Kamra.
