nikita dutta, nepotism, tags, favouritism,

Nikita Dutta is an actress who primarily works in Hindi films and television. After participating in Femina Miss India 2012, she made her acting debut with the romantic drama Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (2014). Dutta made her television debut with Dream Girl (2015) and achieved recognition with Ek Duje Ke Vaaste (2016). In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Nikita Dutta says nepotism and favouritism debate will continue in the industry and that some actors will replace others.

Nikita Dutta Opens Up On Nepotism Debate

When asked about the nepotism debate, Nikita Dutta said, “I never thought like this, I’ll be honest. I never thought I’d be here because—I’ll tell you—I won’t deny that hierarchy exists. So when you come from there, you have to face it. There is a hierarchy. You will have to deal with it—I mean, I faced it. I did have the ‘television tag.’ I knew there would be people with surnames and positions of power who would be given preference over me. That did happen. But at the same time, I don’t see any reason why that should stop you. It’s not like any of this is something out of the blue or unexpected.”

She added, “You know it’s going to be there. We always debate about favoritism, we debate about nepotism—we talk about all of that. Woh kahi jaane wala nahi hai, sab idhar hi rehene wala hai. So aap kis cheez se fir ladna chalu karoge? My approach has always been to accept it and figure your way through it. So, I started giving a lot more importance to the weightage of the characters I was being offered. I remember, even when I signed Gold, for me, it was about the fact that I was working with a very notable production house. The experience of working with Excel, being in Zoya’s (Akhtar) world—that was really important to me. I’ve always been a huge fan of her work, so that meant a lot.”

In conclusion, Dutta said, “It was the same with being part of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s world—that was life-changing for me, and it really mattered. So I guess my priority was that—the priority was to do good work instead of chasing something else. Because I feel like eventually, all of that other stuff follows. You know, a lot of people think they need to run after stardom, after followers, going viral, following trends. But when you’re just the “flavor of the season,” it fades. It eventually dies down. What really stays with you is your art and the effort you put in. So I’ve tried to focus on playing good characters, doing good roles, being part of good films. I mean, honestly, the least expected was Kabir Singh. I really didn’t have any expectations from it, and it ended up turning my life around, actually.”
