kamya punjabi rahul raj singh pratyusha banerjee ajaz khan vikas gupta

Rahul Raj Singh was accused of abetting the su*cide of actress Pratyusha Banerjee, who was discovered dead in her apartment on April 1, 2016. Pratyusha’s parents filed a complaint against Singh, alleging that he played a role in her death by physically, emotionally, and financially harassing and exploiting her. The case has attracted extensive media coverage and has remained ongoing for several years. In a recent interview, Rahul Raj Singh elaborated on the details of Pratyusha Banerjee’s case and how Kamya Panjabi, Vikas Gupta and Ajaz Khan spread false stories.

Rahul Raj Singh Opens Up On Pratyusha Banerjee’s Case

When asked if he was judged even before the court case began in a media trial after Pratyusha Banerjee’s su*cide case, Rahul Raj Singh said, “I was judged, then I was judged very badly. I was seen not as a good person but as someone who tortured a woman, beat his girlfriend, and was held responsible for her suicide. Later, the narrative escalated to allegations of murder, that I had murdered my girlfriend. This narrative was widely circulated in 2016 when the incident occurred.”

Rahul Raj On Media Trial

He continued, “At that time, digital media, YouTube channels, were just starting to grow, and they jumped on the story. The media trial went on for about two months. When that trial ended, I was left in a mental state where I couldn’t face anyone. I truly felt people saw me as a criminal, even though I wasn’t. It was so mentally devastating that even now. I can’t think about those days for even five minutes—it was that bad.

He added, “I wasn’t even very active on social media, but when this happened, my Instagram was flooded with trolls, calling me whatever they wanted. It was a horrible experience for anyone to go through. Legally, I wasn’t affected as much because I had gotten anticipatory bail, but emotionally, I was crushed. I kept asking myself—was this my fault?”

Rahul Raj Singh believed in law and God during this period. He said, “I gave myself fully to God because I couldn’t understand why I was going through all of this. I couldn’t even mourn the loss of my girlfriend, whom I had loved deeply and lived with for ten months. Suddenly, she was gone, and the media were camped outside my home and hospital. I remember thinking—if I’m still alive, what kind of world is this? I didn’t recognise anything or anyone; ended up in the hospital without even having an accident, and people were saying I’d lost my mind.

He added, “And, I couldn’t believe that my girlfriend was no more. I was also paranoid that my friends, even those who had been close, might suspect me. Especially when people like Kamya Punjabi, ajaz Khan, and Vikas Gupta held press conferences, spreading stories without knowing anything about the situation. They built a false image of me as a criminal in front of the entire country. At one point, I even started questioning myself—’Bro, are you really a criminal?'”

Rahul NEVER Did B Grade Or C Grade Films

Rahul believed in his worth and reputation. The actor said, “Anyone could say anything about me. I had worked so hard to build, was torn down overnight. But I had always walked the path of honesty. As an actor, I never did any secret projects, not because of the intimacy, but because those films distorted sacred relationships, like depicting a daughter-in-law with her father-in-law, or a woman with her brother-in-law. I found those stories disrespectful to our religious and social sentiments. I had received offers with big money at that time because I was very famous, but I refused.”

He added, “I came to Mumbai to walk the path of truth and good work. I never took shortcuts. If someone said, ‘Do this with me and I’ll give you work,’ I’d walk away. I had faith in myself—6 feet 2 inches tall, well-spoken, a Grasim and Supermodel winner. I believed that no one should be able to break me down. That mindset became part of who I was.”

Rahul On Fighting Court Case

He said, “During that crisis, I didn’t ask anyone for help. I managed my legal fees myself with my family’s support. Hiring a top lawyer in Mumbai like Abaad Panda wasn’t easy; he was working with top actors and businessmen. But I wanted the best representation, always. So legally, yes, after getting anticipatory bail, I was in the clear, but mentally, I was broken. My entire outlook on life had changed. I, Rahul Raj Singh, who had earned everything with hard work, bought a Jaguar, built a company called Yuva Tiger Entertainment and was shattered inside. I lost my sense of purpose. Slowly, very slowly, I began to heal.”

Rahul added, “But I genuinely believed that maybe my bad phase would never end. You hear that even a dog has its day, but mine never seemed to come. The endless court dates wore me down. I can’t even explain to you what it was like, running to court in the rain, exhausted. It’s not the judiciary’s fault—the courts are just overloaded. I didn’t know what I was stepping into. My first encounter with the legal system was in 2016. Before that, I had never been in a court or police station. I had no friends in the police, except for some CRPF officers I had met during artist tours. I even loved their boots—that’s the kind of simple person I was.”

Rahul Raj on Reports During The Case

Rahul Raj opened up on media reports during this period. He said, “But the way I was interrogated, twisted, and mentally targeted deeply affected me. They manipulated every detail of my relationship with Pratyusha, trying to make their case stick and break me down. Once a police case is filed, they work hard to prove the accused guilty. I didn’t break, though, I had a spiritual connection with God, or the universe, whatever you want to call it. That’s what kept me strong. I answered every question truthfully. I told them—I won’t say whether I did it or not, you tell me if I did.”

He added, “They had already filed the case. Then there were fake witnesses, too, because they had spoken to the media, they had to repeat the same things in court. Even Pratyusha’s parents were misled. I don’t think they are in a good place today either. If none of that manipulation had happened, maybe things wouldn’t have gotten so bad. We could have supported each other. I still believe no one should ever end their life by suicide, and I can’t support that action. The person who commits suicide is ultimately most at fault.”

Rahul On Losing Projects

Concluding, he said, “I had so many projects lined up that all fell apart. One was a Sony project called Janm Janam Ka Saath, which was going to be Pratyusha’s comeback, and I was producing it. We pitched the idea to Sony in February 2016, and they liked it. They even asked us to develop a crime series. But then this tragedy happened in April 2016, and everything collapsed.”
