Rajendra Chawla On Unexpected Call From Karan Johar
Recalling how Agneepath unexpectedly came his way, Rajendra Chawla shared that his journey largely revolved around television, with films coming his way occasionally. Speaking about the moment that caught him completely off guard, he said, “Maine normally TV hi bohot zyada kiya, aur agar koi film ka project aaya toh usko join kiya… maine Agneepath joh nayi wali ki thi usme maine Qawwali ki thi, maine aur Ali Asgar dono qawwal the usme.”
He went on to narrate how the opportunity unfolded, adding, “Achanak ek din Karan Johar ke office se phone aaya ki we want to meet you… Maine kaha arrey bhai ek television actor ko Karan Johar ke company se phone aa raha hai.” When he reached Dharma Productions, the reason behind the meeting surprised him even more. “Unhone kaha aap meri maa ki wajah se yaha baithe hai… wo aapka serial Saas Bina Sasural regularly dekhti hai aur unhone mujhe kaha hai is ladke ko cast karna.” Chawla further revealed that Johar honestly told him there was no major role available, “Bas ye qawwali thi, main isme aapko accommodate karna chahta hu.”
Rajendra Chawla On Being Typecast In The Industry
Opening up about often being seen in father-figure roles, Rajendra Chawla made it clear that he embraces the image with pride rather than frustration. He shared, “Nahi nahi, bohot pyaar karta hu main is role se… main khud do bacchiyon ka baap hu.” Reflecting on his personal journey, he explained how late success deepens emotional connections, adding, “Jo cheez aapko taras ke milti hai na, usme aapka moh badh jata hai… aap apne bachhon ko aur pyaar aur shiddat dete hai.”
Expressing gratitude, he concluded, “Main khushnaseeb hu ki apne ghar ke saath-saath mujhe serials aur har jagah pe ye kaam karne ka mauka mil raha hai.”
