Rajkummar Rao Reacts To Maalik Promoting Violence Like Other Gangster Dramas
In an age where films like Animal, Khalnaayak, and Pushpa are loved for their ‘gangster’ appeal, Rajkummar Rao was asked if Maalik also promotes violence. Denying promoting brutality, the actor exclusively told Bollywood Bubble, “I think it’s meant for entertainment, nothing else. It’s a piece of cinema. As I said earlier, it’s meant to be watched, enjoyed, and experienced. That’s about it. We’re not here to glorify anything. We’re just telling a story.”
He continued, “Specifically, I can talk about Maalik because it’s a character’s journey. It’s the journey of this guy. There’s even a dialogue in the film that says ‘majboor baap ka beta’ (where the father) wanted him to become a labourer, but he doesn’t want to stay in that situation. He wants to get out of it, and of course, he chooses a very different path.”
He added, “I, as Raj (Rajkummar Rao), don’t endorse that at all. But it’s a very universal thought that you don’t have to remain stuck in those circumstances. You can push, you can come out of that life. You can work hard, you can achieve success, and you can take your whole family and your future generations to a different level by working hard, being disciplined, and following your path, your dreams. Of course, this film is about a gangster’s life, so it’s framed that way here. But no, we are absolutely not glorifying it. We are always saying that it’s a fictional story. It’s meant for entertainment and nothing else.”
