Sai Tamhankar On Bold Role Choices Like Kissing Scene In Hunterrr

Speaking about her bold role in Hunterr, Sai Tamhankar said, “Log kya kahenge—if I start thinking like that, then mujhe actor hi nahi banna chahiye, that’s how I feel. And I also believe that when you accept this as your profession, you give the right to people to judge you. That’s the first thing you do—unknowingly, subconsciously. And honestly, that scene—the kiss that people go on talking about—it was shot one year after the entire film shoot. Yeah, so I never looked at it as something ‘oh bold!’ or something ‘oh my God!’ You know? It was a part of my job. But haan, Hunterr went on to become a cult film, and I’m hell proud of it.”

Saie Tamhankar On Representation Of LGBTQ+ Community In Bollywood

When asked about the present portrayal of the LGBTQ+ community in Bollywood, also mentioning her role as Preeti in Dabba Cartel, Sai said, “I think we are quite there now—we’re quite open about things. Earlier we were, but jo cheez hai, usko aap kaun hote ho accept karne wale, is what I think. I mean, if I have feelings for you, for example, we know it, right? Why do we need society’s approval? And why are we looking for validation? This is what I think.”

Concluding, she said, “However, sometimes in a relationship or in friendship, mann karta hai na bahar jaake chillane ka ki main isse pyaar karta hoon, ye meri dost hai, you know? That was missing. Now, we can do that. So I’m really happy that we, as a society, have upgraded ourselves with time. And there are a lot of new relationships which are being accepted and stuff like that. It’s a good sign—it’s a sign of a healthy, progressive society.”
