EXCLUSIVE: Sandiip Sikcand Requests Producers To Introduce More Strong Characters Beyond Tulsi, Anupamaa; States, “You Need To Push Things”

Sandiip Sikcand is a TV actor and producer, known for shows like Yeh Hai Mohabaatien, Mehendi Hai Rachne Waali, Bohot Pyaar Karte Hai, among others. He expressed his concern with regard to the Hindi TV shows that are being produced today. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sandiip Sikcand expressed disappointment over Hindi TV not making shows beyond Anupamaa. He revealed why he enjoys working in regional TV shows more now.

Sandiip Sikcand Opens Up On Impact Of Hindi TV Shows Like Anupamaa

When asked about the impact of shows like Anupamaa on the audience, Sandiip Sikcand said, “Dekhiye, mujhe lagta hai ki jab tak aapke shows aapki kahani nahi bata rahe, tab tak woh connect nahi karenge. Matlab, jab aap woh show dekho aur lage ki ‘Yeh character main hoon’ ya ‘Main is character ko jaanta hoon’ ya ‘Maine iske jaise kisi ke baare mein suna hai’, jab woh character aapki real life aur aapke around ho rahi cheezon se talmel khata hai, tabhi woh popular hota hai.”

He continued, “I think Anupamaa came at a very right time. Kyunki ek aurat jo kehti hai ki agar mera pati mujhe cheat karega, toh main bhi apni zindagi bana sakti hoon, woh har aaj ki aurat bolegi. Aaj koi bhi aurat kisi ki gulam nahi hai. Toh, I think woh show bahut impactful tha. Lekin mujhe lagta hai Anupamaa ke baad kuch bhi naya hua hi nahi hai.”

The actor-producer continued, “Bohot saare logon ne Anupamaa ko copy karne ki koshish ki. But it fell flat because audiences ko pata hai ki bhaiya, unhe Anupamaa ka remake ya usi style ke aur shows nahi dekhne. Mujhe lagta hai Anupamaa was the start point, jaise 25 saal pehle Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi aur Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii were the start points. Kyunki ne Tulsi ko janam diya, ek nayi heroine di. Anupamaa ne bhi uss heroine ko enhance kiya, usse better banaya. But uske aage kya?”

Sandiip continued, “That is what I want to know. Mujhe lagta hai ki yeh shows ne farak dala hai, and we need to continue making that difference. Ek time pe Balaji ne yeh kaam bohot achha kiya tha. Bandini, Kasam Se jaise shows kiye the, Bade Acche Lagte Hain was a great concept, ek middle-aged love story ke baare mein baat ki gayi thi. Toh mujhe lagta hai Balaji ne woh experimentation bohot kiya, lekin abhi koi kar nahi raha hai. Aur yeh ek sad point hai.”

Sandiip On Hindi TV Shows Needs A Push

Concluding, he said, “Jaise aapne Anupamaa ka example liya, main bhi yeh sochta hoon ki hum Anupamaa ko aur enhance kyun nahi kar rahe hain? Hum uski story ko aage kyun nahi le ja rahe hain? Hum bas ussi anubhav mein atak gaye hain. So I think, coming back to the same thing, you need to think fresh, you need to think new. And you need to push things in such a way ke log usse identify kar sakein. Toh, I think television should identify that, and should make characters and shows jo usse resonate karein. Har show ek hi ghar mein hota hai, wahi parivaar hota hai, wahi 25 log hote hain parivaar mein. I think agar woh bhi dikhana hai toh dikhaiye, lekin usse enhance karo, usse better banao. And I think that is not what is happening.”
