EXCLUSIVE: Sonam Nair Wants People To Compare Bhuvan Arora, Sparsh Shrivastava’s Performance In Dupahiya Item Song Photua To Chikni Chameli, Sheila Ki Jawaani

Sonam Nair is best known for the series Masaba Masaba on Netflix and her award-winning short film Khujli. Her latest directorial venture was Dupahiya on Amazon Prime Video. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sonam Nair shares her reaction to the love people are giving to Dupahiya’s song Photua.

Sonam Nair Reacts To Love For Dupahiya Song Photua

Speaking about how the audience is loving Dupahiya’s song Photua – where Bhuvan Arora and Sparsh can be seen dancing as women dancers- Sonam Nair said, “I’m so happy that there’s a lot of (positive) stuff coming in for it. It is a picky area to go into, so I’m proud of both of them. They never once had anything like, ‘Oh, I don’t know if we look good. How will people take it?’ They both were full, like, ‘What you want us to wear? What do you want us to do?’ Their commitment shows in the video because they were fully in.“

She continues, “Ganesh Acharya ji – who choreographed it, we made it look like as if an item number, like, let’s do our own version of it. Let’s not make it any less. So, the scale was upgraded. It all began because we said, let’s try and get Ganesh Acharya to do this. And he was treated, and it just became, let’s just now get everything right. And then everybody just fully committed.”

Sonam Nair Praises Bhuvan Arora And Sparsh Shrivastav’s Dance In Photua

Sonam says, “We were shooting it and, within 10-15 minutes, you just forget that, oh, these are all boys. They’re just lying down. You just forget it. It just becomes so normal. You’re like, okay. And Ganesh ji made the dancers practice a lot. And, the dancers and the boys practised on their expressions. Because the expressions are as important in this kind of song as well.”

The director concluded, “So it’s just like getting the dancers, the lip syncs, the right adaah, the right body language, the right eye movement, which Ganesh sir is a master in. So we wanted to be like once the song comes out, it should be like people comparing it to Chikni Chameli or Sheila Ki Jawaani, you know that level. Yeah. So I’m glad that people are really enjoying it and getting into it.”

Sonam Nair On Facing Backlash Due To Fragile Egos

When asked if she was worried about facing backlash over the Photua song, Sonam said, “No. I don’t think so because in the Indian scene, so many of our biggest leading actors have done this. It is almost like a tradition… Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, all have done it at some point in their career. So it’s not like we are forced to do when you have to do, like, a full-on item song. One of them even had to have a beard. It’s been done by most big actors, to be very honest these days. We’re like, okay, this is going to be our version of that. If the country has accepted the ticket or after doing it, then why not? I should not have a problem.”
