Sooraj Pancholi Recalls Social Media Trolling During Court Case

Speaking of social media trolling, especially during the court case, Sooraj Pancholi answered, “It did bother me—a lot. I mean, it’s out there. They call it ‘freedom of speech,’ but I don’t really think it is. I think it’s just a bunch of very depressed or very sad individuals who can’t cope with things, and so they end up bashing not just me, but other people online too, whether it’s actors or actresses. I mean, just look at the comments under any girl’s post. They’re often very disturbing. Luckily, my sister’s Instagram is private. Otherwise, I’d probably be out there looking for the person commenting on her page. But it is what it is. There’s nothing you can really do about it now.”

When asked about how he dealt with his court case, Sooraj Pancholi said, “Especially when all the fingers are pointing at you. And when you know that you haven’t done anything wrong, it’s very difficult to explain or prove it. You’re just lost for words. In my trial, I had the option to take a discharge. I don’t know if people understand how the legal system works. I could have been discharged years ago. Yes, I could have been acquitted long ago. But I told my lawyer, I sat down with my dad and said—’If I get acquitted now, people will say it’s because I have a golden spoon in my mouth. And that’s why I was let off.’”
