Independence Day is right around the corner. Well, most of y’all are happy including me are happy that it’s not falling on a weekend and instead on a weekday so our holiday doesn’t get wasted. But, jokes apart. This day holds a special significance for the whole country. While we might Have learnt history in school and understood meanings, but, for me, I didn’t feel it through a textbook, Bollywood movies made me feel it. As the nation gears up to commemorate freedom and patriotism, what better way to revel in the spirit of the day than by indulging in a movie marathon? From explosive blockbusters to heartwarming tales of valour, our curated list of 10 Bollywood movies to watch ahead of independence day.

Though it might not be a biopic or a completely patriotic film, there are moments which will hit that part in you which will evoke the feeling of love. Well, shah rukh khan, John Abraham and Deepika Padukone are not the only reason to watch the film. Shah Rukh also once said, “Pathaan is also very patriotic but in an action way.” Srk is a spy who would go to any extent to save India with his big moves. Dimple Kapadia sacrifices herself for her team. It’s the perfect blend of action and patriotism packed together. This dialgoue lives in my head rent free, “Ek soldier ye nahi puchta desh ne uske liye kya kiya, puchta hai woh desh ke liye kya kar sakta hai.”

2) Shershah

Shershaah is a Bollywood biographical action film starring Siddharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani. The movie is based on the life of an Indian army officer, Captain Vikram Batra, who was martyred in the line of duty during the 1999 Kargil War. Nothing better than this movie can explain the valour, sacrifice and patriotism of Indian Army soldiers and the importance of remembering the sacrifices of our brave soldiers.

3) Rang De Basanti

Rang De Basanti is a story of friendship, revolution and sacrifice. It is a film that tells the story of a group of friends whose lives are forever changed when they star in a film about the Indian independence movement. As they delve deeper into the characters they are playing, they begin to embody the spirit of revolution and sacrifice for their country. With a powerful cast led by Aamir Khan, Siddharth Narayan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, and Atul Kulkarni, Rang De Basanti is a film that will inspire you to stand up for what is right and make you proud to be an Indian. The story is set during the 1971 Indo-Pak war and revolves around the classified naval mission of the Indian submarine INS Karanj. 6) Bhuj: The Pride of India

This action-packed historical drama celebrates the courage, resilience, and patriotism of the Indian Air Force and the local villagers during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The story revolves around IAF Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik (played by Ajay Devgn). He along with a team of brave civilians, reconstructs the Bhuj airbase after it is destroyed in a Pakistani airstrike. The film portrays the incredible efforts and sacrifices made by these individuals to ensure that the airbase is operational again. The movie also stars cast, including Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, and Nora Fatehi.

Cricket is undoubtedly India’s favourite sport and passion flows naturally into most Indians. This film, having an ensemble cast led by Ranveer Singh playing the role of the 1983 cricket world cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, takes everyone back to the time when India lifted its first ICC trophy. This film is filled with nostalgia and passion that invokes every cricket lover’s inner patriot.

8) Airlift

This is yet again one of the movies which has touched my heart. Airlift captures the essence of patriotism and unity during times of crisis. The film tells the true story of the largest civilian evacuation in history, which took place during the Gulf War in 1990. Akshay Kumar portrays Ranjit Katyal, a successful Indian businessman who transforms into a self-centred individual. He takes on the responsibility of evacuating over 170,000 Indians stranded in Kuwait. Its depiction the undying spirit of the Indian community coming together, regardless of backgrounds and differences, to overcome adversity.

9) Gunjan Saxena

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is a film that will give you courage, and determination, and also breaks gender stereotypes. The film is based on the true story of Gunjan Saxena, the first Indian female Air Force pilot in combat. Janhvi Kapoor plays the lead. The movie showcases Gunjan’s journey as she battles stereotypes, faces discrimination, and ultimately proves her mettle during the Kargil War. The film resonates with themes of women’s empowerment, breaking barriers, and fighting for one’s dreams. It’s a story that aligns with the spirit of freedom, equality, and the celebration of individual achievements, making it a meaningful choice for your movie marathon.

10) Bajrangi Bhaijaan

I don’t know about you but this movie made me cry. It’s not a straight-up patriotic movie but Salman Khan’s character Pavan and his selflessness resonates with the qualities of most Indian. This heartwarming film is the perfect blend of emotion, cultural harmony, and the spirit of humanity. The story revolves around a Pakistani young girl child Munni getting separated from her mother. Pavan gives it his all travelling from India to Pakistan just to drop her back home. It underscores the importance of breaking down barriers and embracing the essence of brotherhood, which aligns perfectly with the spirit of the day.
