2018: Big Budget Movies to look forward to this year

PadMan

Based on the real life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the creator of low-cost sanitary pads in Tamil Nadu, the year kickstarts with Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte-starrer 'PadMan'. Directed by R Balki and co-produced by Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Gauri Shinde, Prernaa Arora, Arjun N Kapoor, this movie is mounted on a good budget. It will be releasing on January 26 this year. Considering Akshay's strong hold over the box office, we are pretty sure this one too will emerge to become a hit amongst the audiences.

Padmavati

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movies are always mounted on a greater scale and his upcoming project 'Padmavati' is no different. Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, the movie met with numerous controversies last year and had to defer its release date. This year seems to be a hopeful one for this flick which should release anytime post March, as reported by some CBFC members. Clearly, one of the most talked about projects, 'Padmavati' is surely a highly anticipated flick of the year.

Sanjay Dutt Biopic

Ranbir Kapoor is all set to play Sanjay Dutt on the big screen in latter's biopic. The name of the movie is yet to be announced, but one thing's for sure that this one is going to be a high on budget flick as the actor has shot in vivid foreign locales too. Ranbir has picked up the mannerisms of Dutt quite well and it would be interesting to see him play Dutt on screen. The movie will be releasing on March 30 this year.

When it's a Rajinikanth movie the stakes are bound to be high and then include Akshay Kumar too in it. What you expect are some true fireworks. In the forthcoming flick '2.0', Akshay Kumar plays the baddie opposite Rajinikanth's heroic role. Mounted on a lavish budget of around Rs 400 crore, this one seems deadlier than its predecessor 'Robot'. Helmed by Shankar, the movie is slated to release on April 27 this year.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi

Kangana Ranaut will be seen essaying the role of Rani Laxmibai in the upcoming flick 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi'. Mounted on a huge budget of around Rs 150 crore, Kangana has prepped really hard for this historical character. Helmed by Krissh and written by K Vijayendra Prasad, the movie is slated to release on April 27 this year.

Veere Di Wedding

This year, Rhea Kapoor's production 'Veere Di Wedding' is also a highly awaited one, because four feisty young women are spearheading this flick. Actresses Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania are playing the four main lead characters in this movie which is all set to release on May 18. Shot in various foreign locales, this one too is one of the high budgeted flicks of the year.

Fanne Khan

KriArj Entertainment's next flick 'Fanne Khan' reunites Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after a really long time. The movie which also stars Rajkummar Rao is all set to hit the big screens on June 15. Will this movie manage to work wonders for both Kapoor and Mrs Bachchan? Let's wait.

Akshay Kumar Independence Day release 'GOLD' will see him in the role of a hockey player. The movie is based on the story of Balbir Singh, the man behind India's glorious victory at the 1948 London Olympics. Directed by Reema Kagti, 'GOLD' also stars Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Sunny Kaushal. Will this Independence Day release break records at the box office?

Irrfan and Deepika-starrer

After the critically acclaimed 'Piku', Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone will be sharing screen space again in Vishal Bhardwaj's production which will be helmed by Honey Trehan. The story will be based on journalist S Hussain Zaid's novel titled 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai'. Reportedly, the movie is slated to release on Oct 2, 2018. Thugs Of Hindostan

This is the first time that two superstars like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan will be teaming up for a project and surely this flick would be one of the most anticipated ones. We are talking about 'Thugs Of Hindostan' which is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra. The fact that 'Baahubali' star Prabhas leads the star cast of 'Saaho' makes this a high budgeted one. Written and directed by Sujeeth and produced by UV Creations, this flick is a highly anticipated one, thanks to Prabhas. The release date of the trilingual is yet to be announced.

Aanand L Rai's forthcoming untitled project which stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role is looking for a December release this year. It is one of the most advanced VFX movies as stated by Shah Rukh Khan himself, so the stakes for this one are quite high. The movie also stars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in pivotal parts.
