Yash Raj Chopra’s last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan completed nine years of its release. The film which stars Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma was high on romance. It celebrated love, breakups and friendship; however, the film made everyone emotional and has etched in everyone’s heart as this was the last film that was directed by Yash Chopra. 

The film was about a common man named Samar (Shah Rukh) who falls in love with a beautiful businesswoman named Mira (Katrina Kaif) who was highly religious. However, things go down south a little when they break up due to Mira’s promise. After his heartbreak, he joins the army and after years they reunite with the help of Akira (Anushka Sharma) who films a documentary on Samar.

1. Yash Chopra had intended to shoot the parts of the title song “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” in the Swiss Alps, his favourite shooting location but after his death, the Switzerland shoot was cancelled, as Aditya Chopra did not want to tamper with his father’s vision.

2. Jab Tak Hai Jaan was the first film in his career where Shah Rukh Khan broke his no kissing rule. SRK shared a sizzling on-screen kiss with Katrina Kaif after Yash Raj convinced him saying it was a necessity in this film. 

3. This movie marks the return of Yash Chopra as a director after a gap of 8 years. His last film was Veer-Zaara starring SRK and Preity Zinta which was a blockbuster back then. 

4. Yash Chopra completed the film just before he died on October 21, 2012, at the age of 80 reportedly due to dengue fever. 

5. Did you know the poem the story behind Jab Tak Hai Jaan poems? Interestingly, the poems that Shah Rukh recites during the film was actually written by Yash Chopra’s son Aditya Chopra which was then added to the official soundtrack album of the movie. 

6. Back in 2012, Bollywood saw one of the biggest clashes at the box office. Jab Tak Hai Jaan clashed with Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha starrer Son Of Sardar. Two weeks before the release, Ajay Devgn FFilms had sent a notice to the Competition Commission of India accusing Yash Raj Films of monopolistic business practices; the notice contended that they used “their dominant position in the Bollywood film market” to secure many desirable single-screen theatres for their release.

7. Jab Tak Hai Jaan emerged as the third-highest-grossing Bollywood film overseas back in 2012, after Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots (2009) and SRK’s My Name Is Khan (2010). The film was released during the six-day Diwali weekend on 13 November 2012.

8. Usually, Yash Chopra songs are crooned by Lata Mangeshkar but Jab Tak Hai Jaan becomes the first film that has no songs that are sung by Lata ji in the film. 

9. There was a shelved movie J.R. Pictures “Jab Tak Hain Jaan”(1986) Starring Suresh Oberoi, Moon Moon Sen, Danny Denzongpa, Music by Raam Laxman, Directed by Deepak Bahry.
