akshay kumar, omg 2,

OMG 2 is one of the much-awaited sequels of the year. The first installment from 2012 was a huge hit among the critics as well as the audiences. It showcased the journey of an atheist named Kanji Lalji Mehta (Paresh Rawal) filing a case against god after a mishap. It showed Akshay Kumar as lord Krishna, who played a vital role in changing his belief. In OMG 2, Akshay Kumar is essaying the role of Lord Shiva’s messenger, while Pankaj Tripathi plays Mahadev’s devotee. The movie also stars Yami Gautam Dhar as a lawyer. While the trailer of the film has left everyone impressed and piqued our interest in the film with a couple of songs turning chartbusters, here are 5 reasons that make OMG 2 a must-watch.

Socially relevant message and fresh perspective on religious beliefs

OMG 2 is not afraid to talk about sensitive topics like sex education and social norms. By shedding light on these topics, the movie attempts to start discussions about progressive ideas and the need for open dialogue in our society. It gives a nuanced and thought-provoking look at beliefs, questioning blind faith and getting people to think about their views. In a recent teaser, we see Pankaj Tripathi’s character having logic towards certain systems and his perspective will leave you impressed.

Akshay Kumar’s character

The actor essayed the role of Lord Krishna in Part 1 who comes on earth to change Paresh Rawal’s perception towards religious beliefs. This time, Akshay Kumar plays the role of the messenger of Lord Shiva, Dhoot. The trailer begins with Lord Shiva asking his loyal Nandi to send one of his messengers to the aid of Pankaj’s Kanti Sharan Mudgal. Talking about Akshay’s impressive avatar, he looks promising as Shiva’s messenger. He is seen in a shirtless avatar, sporting long dreadlocks and ash smeared on his forehead.

High on family values

One of the interesting facts about the OMG 2 trailer is, without revealing the main issue, we see how society bogs you down if an act goes viral. At such a time, it’s your family that acts as a pillar of strength. Apart from religious beliefs, the backdrop of the film is a poignant reflection of the unconditional love shared between a father and son. While we see thorny blurbs of guilt boring in Vivek, his father makes sure to fight the case against the education system single-handedly. There are stints where we see Pankaj Tripathi praying that his child’s future is dark. We even saw how he attempts to study law to put forward his points effectively. What captivated me about the bond is that despite hailing from a small city, Pankaj Tripathi takes this bold step.

Engaging courtroom debate between Yami Gautam and Pankaj Tripathi

The trailer gives a glimpse of Pankaj Tripathi’s character Kanti Sharan Mudgal’s son has been expelled from school for a ‘vulgar’ act. Kanti has filed a case in the court for educating today’s generation about the various functionalities of the human body. But he is both, the defendant and the accuser. This time, Kanti Mishra is seen as having a firm belief in God. But he is progressive as well when it comes to protecting his son. Yami Gautam then enters as a lawyer and locks horns with Kanti in the courtroom. While Pankaj explains his reasons to file a suit against the school, Yami as the opposition too puts her points with conviction. We also witness Pankaj Tripathi’s character giving a different perspective to the teachings in Sanatan dharma. While he explains the principles of Dharma, he makes sure to highlight its meaning and not the blind faith associated with it.

Soulful melodies

The thought-provoking film is perfectly complemented by its soul-stirring music. It will not only help the audience to connect with the story emotionally but also takes the narrative forward. While Oonchi Oonchi Waadi is a pleasant and positive track, Har Har Mahadev has an upbeat tune that makes you tap your feet.
