Bollywood lost another precious gem as veteran actor Jagdeep passed away on July 8. The 81-year-old actor breathed his last around 8:30 pm at his Bandra residence. He died due to age-related issues.

Jagdeep was known for his iconic character Soorma Bhopali in ‘Sholay’. The actor had established himself as a comic actor and he was one of the best in the business. The actor made the audience double over in laughter with his funny characters. In remembrance of the legendary actor here’s looking at some his funniest characters on-screen.

Some of the funniest characters of Jagdeep

‘Sholay’

This blockbuster hit gave Jagdeep one of his most iconic characters and he is remembered for it even today yes we are talking about ‘Soorma Bhopali’. Jagdeep played the role of a funny merchant and if reports are to be believed Jagdeep had given his inputs to screenwriters Salim-Javed about his character.

‘Andaz Apna Apna’

Another laughter riot that Bollywood had seen. Jagdeep was part of this movie as well and he played the role Bankelel Bhopali who was the father of Salman Khan’s character. Jagdeep’s role was very brief and he was seen alongside fellow comedian and later actor Mehmood.

‘Purana Mandir’

In the Ramsay Brother’s horror film, Jagdeep played the character of a dacoit named Machchar Singh and it was a spoof of ‘Sholay’s Gabbar Singh. His comedy scenes were the high point of the movie.

‘Brahmachari’

This Shammi Kapoor starrer had people rolling in laughter and Jagdeep was established as a comedian as he played the role of a man who tries to impress a girl behind his father’s back.

‘Agent Vinod’

Well, this is not the Saif Ali Khan starrer, but it is the spy thriller that released in 1977. In the movie, Mahendra Sandhu played the lead role and Jagdeep was the highlight as he played his clumsy assistant.

Jagdeep’s funeral was held at Shia Kabristan, Mazgaon in Mumbai. The ace comedian will always live in our hearts.
