The year 2020 will be etched forever in the history of Indian films. Saroj Khan, one of the most celebrated choreographers of Bollywood bid adieu to the world on July 3, 2020. The 71-year-old choreographer died due to cardiac arrest. Her death is certainly the end of an era in Bollywood.

Starting as a child artiste in the late 1950s, Saroj went on to become the most-sought-after choreographer in Bollywood. Back in 80s-90s Hindi films would be incomplete without a proper dose of dance songs and it was Saroj who made actresses like Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit stand apart from the rest thanks to the magic they created together. In a career spanning more than four decades, Saroj has around 2000 songs to her credit. She has bagged three national awards and has even worked in an International film.

From ‘Hawa Hawai’, ‘Dhak Dhak Karne Laga’ to ‘Kaate Nahin Kat Te’, Saroj has given us innumerable evergreen songs. Some of her best works were with Madhuri and the late actress Sridevi.

Born in Mumbai in 1948, after her parents migrated from Pakistan after the Partition of India, Saroj (born as Nirmala Nagpal) started her career as a child artiste. Later moving up the ladder she became background dancer and then rose up to the rank of one of the most legendary choreographers Bollywood has ever witnessed.
