Movies working or not working at the box office are completely in the hands of the fans. No matter which superstar is headlining the movie, it will surely tank at the box office if it fails to entice the audience. Similarly, recently, movies like Laal Singh Chaddha, Liger, Shamshera, Samrat Prithviraj and many more have failed to create magic at the box office, despite the movies being headlined by superstars.

Speaking of which, there was a time when superstars like Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and more returned the money. Just recently there were reports stating that Vijay Deverakonda had to return a whopping amount to the producers after the Liger failure at the box office. However, the reports are not confirmed. We made a list of the actors who have reportedly returned the money to the producers or the distributors after their movies turned out to be box office flops as compensation.

From Shah Rukh Khan to Vijay Deverakonda, here’s a list of actors who reportedly refunded their acting fees after their movies became flops.

1. Aamir Khan:

According to the reports, Aamir had to pay back some amount of his acting fees to the producers after Laal Singh Chaddha failed to create box office records. However, later, the CEO of Viacom 18, Ajit Andhare, denied all rumours about compensation for losses in an interview. He said, “There are no external distributors, it’s being distributed by V18Studios, and no money is lost in the first place. Film is still running in theatres, both in India & internationally. This is baseless speculation.

2. Vijay Deverakonda:

According to a report on India TV, Vijay Deverakonda agreed to return Rs 6 crores from his acting fees to the producers to compensate them for their loss. However, since the actor hasn’t stated anything, the claims are not officially confirmed. Liger movie is made on a budget of Rs 100 crore and the Hindi version of the film minted Rs 18.7 crore nett at the domestic box office.

3. Shah Rukh Khan:

As per reports, SRK had to return money for quite a few films of his. SRK refunded the money lost to the distributors after Asoka and Paheli flopped at the box office. The Zero actor is also said to have refunded 50% of the distribution cost to the producers after the Dilwale failure. Speaking about the loss, Shah Rukh said, “I don’t think the film has done as well as it should have. I am personally disappointed with that.” He has even returned 30% to the individual distributors and 12 Crores to NH studios after the Jab Harry Met Sejal failure.

4. Karan Johar:

Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditya Roy Kapur starrer Kalank was made on a budget of Rs 150 crores but it failed to set the cash registers on fire after it was released. The movie reportedly earned Rs 66 crores in a week at the box office. Due to this, KJo had to return a certain amount to the distributors as compensation.

5. Rajinikanth:

Rajinikanth is one of the biggest stars in India. He has delivered several box office as well as critically acclaimed films in the past. However, his 2002 movie, Baba tanked at the box office. As it suffered loss, the Robot actor covered up the losses incurred by the distributors from his own side. He even refunded Rs 10 crores to the distributors to cover up the losses for his movie Lingaa.

6. Salman Khan:

Salman Khan is considered the box office’s Sultan. Most of the films were making 200 crores and 300 crore business at the box office. However, Tubelight also starring Sohail Khan failed miserably at the box office. Just like other stars, Khan decided to refund Rs 32.5 crore rupees to the distributors who faced losses.

7. Mahesh Babu:

It was earlier reported that Mahesh Babu starrer Aagadu bombed at the box office. Due to this, he had to return a part of his remuneration to the producers just to compensate for the losses.
