When stars took a backseat, and played supporting characters
Shah Rukh Khan
While since the past few years, Shah Rukh Khan has been playing only lead roles, his character in ‘Dear Zindagi’ turned out to be an exception. The actor played a supporting character and the protagonist of the film was Alia Bhatt.
Not one, but Aamir has been a part of two films where he didn’t play the lead and opted to take a backseat. He played supporting roles in ‘Taare Zameen Par’ and ‘Secret Superstar’.
Since the past few years, Akshay Kumar has tasted a lot of success. While his fans love him when he plays a lead role, the actor has experimented and played supporting roles in movies like ‘OMG Oh My God’, ‘The Shaukeens’ and ‘Naam Shabana’.
Kareena Kapoor Khan
Kareena Kapoor might have done a few supporting roles in the beginning of her career. But, after establishing herself in the industry, she never opted to take a backseat. However, ‘Udta Punjab’ turned out to be an exception. She played a supporting role, while Alia was in the lead.
For an actress who is at the top of her game doing a supporting role is surely a big deal. But, Anushka experimented and did ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ where she had not much to do apart from being Ranveer Singh’s love interest.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan mostly played lead roles in all her films, but it was the 2016 release ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ in which the actress decided to take a backseat and play a small role.
