Shruti Haasan

Every time the legendary actor-director Kamal Haasan announces a film, there’s always a lot of buzz. It is no different this time around as well. The buzz has been that Kamal Haasan will be reviving the popular character Balram Naidu, a RAW operative from 2008 Tamil action-comedy ‘Dasavatharam’, in his upcoming yet-untitled trilingual comedy. It’s an out-and-out comedy flick interspersed with sporadic action sequences, and the shooting will start from the second week of May. While we still wait for confirmations regarding the plot and other details of his forthcoming film, we heard that the male lead opposite Shruti Haasan has been locked, and he is not from B-Town. The Haasans were having a tough time locking the male lead from Bollywood – many A-listers’ names were approached, but they all politely declined.

After a lot of running around, Kamal Haasan zeroed in on Manu Narayan, an American actor, film producer, singer, songwriter, composer and saxophonist. Manu’s last and perhaps the only film that released in India was writer-director Sudhish Kamath’s critically acclaimed film, ‘Good Night | Good Morning’. This is perhaps Manu’s big ticket to mainstream cinema, as he has only been seen in American TV shows, and plays. Getting a re-launch in a Kamal Haasan-starrer might bring the spotlight on him, and being paired opposite Shruti Haasan of course is a big deal.

We are looking forward to see the chemistry between Manu and Shruti, and yes, also to find if Manu manages to make his presence felt under the towering persona that Kamal Haasan is. Do you think this pairing will work? Write to us in the comments.
