BTS RM and V began their military service in December 2023. While three other members—Jin, J-Hope, and Suga—had already been months into their conscription. They are the latest members of the group to be discharged from South Korea’s mandatory military duty, marking their return to civilian life. RM and V were welcomed back on Tuesday in Chuncheon City. Approximately 200 fans, some travelling from Mexico, Turkey, and Brazil, gathered to cheer and greet them.

BTS RM And V Complete Mandatory Military Service

They are the third and fourth BTS members to be discharged in 2024, following Jin and J-Hope. Videos and photos capturing RM and Kim Taehyung (V) exiting their military base quickly went viral online, with fans celebrating their return enthusiastically. V was discharged a few minutes before RM, amid loud cheers from fellow soldiers. His images and videos spreading rapidly on social media showcased his warm welcome back. Shortly after, RM also exited, playing a saxophone—a stylish return that delighted their global fandom.

Regarding their military service details, on November 22, 2023, BTS’s label, BIGHIT Music, announced via Weverse that both RM and V had begun their enlistment process. They officially started their service on December 11.

RM served as an active duty soldier. V, after completing extended military training, was assigned on February 8, 2024, to the Ssangyong Unit of the 2nd Corps, serving under the Military Police’s Special Task Force.

BTS Jin, J-Hope, Jimin, JungKook

Jin, the oldest member, was discharged from the army in June 2024, followed by J-Hope in October. Jimin and Jungkook are scheduled to be discharged on Wednesday. Suga is currently serving as a social service agent, an alternative to active duty. The group plans to reunite as a full septet sometime in 2025. Following them, JK and Baby Mochi are set to be discharged on June 11. Suga will return on June 21, completing the group’s reunion.

On June 8, the HYBE building displayed a large “WE ARE BACK” message illuminated across the structure, signalling BTS’s return. According to BIGHIT’s plans, RM and V greeted fans in Chuncheon. Jimin and Jungkook were scheduled to do so later in Yeoncheon.
