chris hemsworth leaving MCU

Chris Hemsworth clarified that the video he shared was made out of gratitude towards his character, and not a final farewell to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor, who is set to reprise his role as Thor in the upcoming Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday, addressed rumours about whether this will be his last appearance as the God of Thunder.

Chris Hemsworth Is NOT Leaving The Marvel Cinematic Universe

A few months ago, Hemsworth posted a video on his YouTube channel to mark his return to the franchise. That clip sparked speculation about Thor’s potential exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Hemsworth explained, “It was certainly not the intent. To be honest, my social media team assembled some footage and were like, ‘Oh, this could be cool. We’ll put some stuff up and thank the fans.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, cool. It’s been great,’” emphasizing that the video was simply a gesture of appreciation.

He further added, “So we penned it together, and off I went to do something else. But then I had a few people ask me about it, and someone on my team said, ‘Ugh, we’ve given the wrong impression here.’ We didn’t do any [damage control]; there was no damage control necessary. But a lot was read into a little.”

About Avengers: Doomsday

Regarding his role moving forward, Hemsworth indicated that Thor is expected to appear in films released after Doomsday. Given his long-standing presence in the franchise since 2011, the God of Thunder could play a significant part in the upcoming movie. Additionally, Chris Hemsworth will reunite on screen with Robert Downey Jr. for the first time since Avengers: Endgame in this new instalment. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theatres in December 2026, with the full cast announced this past March.
