Cannes 2025 has already made headlines with its first big deal. Mubi is close to finalizing a purchase of Die My Love, a psychological drama starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson. The deal is worth over $20 million and covers U.S. and several international rights. The film had its world premiere on Saturday and received a six-minute standing ovation, sparking early Oscar buzz.
Mubi Nears $20 Million Deal for Jennifer Lawrence’s Die My Love
Die My Love is based on the 2017 novel by Ariana Harwicz. The story is set in rural America and follows a woman, played by Lawrence, struggling with severe postpartum depression. Her mental health continues to worsen, and she begins to lose her grip on reality. Pattinson plays her unaware and emotionally distant husband.
The film explores themes of mental illness, isolation, and emotional pain in a raw and personal way. It is directed by Lynne Ramsay, best known for You Were Never Really Here, which premiered at Cannes in 2017 and won best screenplay. Die My Love marks her return to the festival after that critical success.
The film is backed by a strong production team. Jennifer Lawrence’s company Excellent Cadaver, Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions, and Black Label Media are all involved. The list of producers includes Justine Ciarrocchi, Martin Scorsese, Andrea Calderwood, Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill, and Thad Luckinbill.
According to Variety, if the Mubi deal goes through, it will be the first major sale of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film’s strong debut and emotional subject matter have already positioned it as a possible awards season contender.
