On Monday, prosecutors announced that the “lead” doctor involved in Perry’s 2023 ketamine overdose has accepted a plea deal, according to reports from Variety.

Dr. Salvador Plasencia, from Santa Monica, California, has agreed to plead guilty to four counts of ketamine distribution, a spokesperson for the Central District of California stated. The charges could result in up to 40 years in federal prison. Plasencia is one of five individuals charged in connection with Perry’s death. Prosecutors allege that an underground network of drug dealers and suppliers was responsible for distributing the ketamine that contributed to his demise.

About Plea Agreement

In his plea agreement, Plasencia admits to repeatedly providing ketamine without medical justification in the weeks leading to Perry’s death. Under the terms of the deal, filed Monday in federal court in Los Angeles, he faces up to 40 years in prison and a $2 million fine. A co-defendant revealed that Plasencia once referred to Perry as a “moron” in a text message. This suggests he could be exploited for money. The doctor was a primary target of the investigation, alongside a woman accused of being a ketamine dealer. Three other defendants, including another doctor, pleaded guilty last year in exchange for cooperation.

According to the plea agreement, Plasencia distributed 20 vials of ketamine, lozenges, and syringes to Perry. And his live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, was also involved. It was between September 30 and October 12, 2023, as reported by ABC News. Plasencia also acknowledged that his conduct fell below the standard of proper medical care. And, the transfers of ketamine to Iwamasa and Perry were not for legitimate medical purposes. It is believed he went to Perry’s home to give him a ketamine injection. And administered the drug in a parking lot.
