Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is scheduled to be sentenced on October 3 following his conviction on prostitution-related charges. This comes after a split verdict that acquitted him of more serious crimes. The music mogul was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, each carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs To Be Convicted For Prostitution
He was found not guilty of the sweeping r*cketeering and s*x tr*fficking charges after a lengthy trial in which he faced allegations of severe ab*se. However, the jury convicted him on the two transportation counts, which carry significant but lesser penalties. It is unlikely that the judge will impose the maximum sentences.
Prosecutors have indicated in court filings that, under federal sentencing guidelines, a sentence ranging from 51 to 63 months could be appropriate, though they may request a longer term. Conversely, his defence has signalled plans to advocate for a lighter sentence, proposing a range of 21 to 27 months, also based on federal guidelines.
About Combs’ Ongoing Case
Combs, 55, has been incarcerated since September 2024 at a well-known Brooklyn facility, and all time served will be credited toward his final sentence. The jury reached its verdict on July 2 after just 13 hours of deliberation, following 8 weeks of intense testimony and argument. During the two-month trial, prosecutors portrayed Combs as the leader of a long-standing criminal enterprise, allegedly directing employees and bodyguards to commit various offences.
Nevertheless, he was acquitted of r*cketeering and s*x tr*fficking charges related to women with whom he was in long-term relationships. This acquittal led his legal team to request that Combs be released on bail, a motion Judge Arun Subramanian denied, citing Combs’s admitted history of domestic vi*lence. While this history helped in securing acquittals on key charges, it also influenced the judge’s decision to deny bail.
What Has Happened So Far?
The charges on which Combs was convicted are considerably less severe than r*cketeering and s*x tr*fficking, which could have resulted in a life sentence. The judge will consider arguments from both sides before determining the final sentence. The prosecution is likely to advocate for a longer sentence, citing Combs’s documented history of vi*lence, dr*g use, and the fact that he continued violations related to the charges while under federal investigation. His defense has argued that Combs’s actions involved only using prostitution services without profiting from them through hired s*x, and thus, he warrants a lighter sentence.
