Tokyo Olympics 2020: BTS featured as South Korea’s national idol at the opening ceremony

BTS made ARMY and their nation proud once again. BTS boys RM, Suga, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, V and J-Hope were featured as one of three national icons of South Korea who represented the country this year at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. BTS ARMY was in a frenzy as they flooded Twitter with videos of the boys on-screen during the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

BTS was featured alongside, Namdaemun (South Korea’s first National Treasure, built in the 14th century), and Yi Sunsin, a 16th-century Korean admiral and military general. This was quite a proud moment for the ARMY as they took to Twitter and celebrated. One of the tweets read, “@BTS_twt shown as the main representative of South Korea at the Tokyo Olympic opening ceremony.#BTS,” another tweet read, “During the opening of the Olympics today, a picture of @BTS_twt was shown as South Korea’s one of the main representatives!?? KOREA’S NATIONAL PRIDE BTS? #BTS NATION’S PRIDE So there were 3 images that are representing Korea in Tokyo Olympics Opening ceremony.”

On South Korea's team entry, they used BTS as one of those that best represents South Korea, alongside historical monuments, right on the Opening Ceremony of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Meanwhile, The President of South Korea, Moon Jae In, has appointed BTS as the ‘Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture’. The K-pop band will attend the 75th UN General Assembly and other conferences as well this year.  The official announcement by the spokesperson read, “BTS will attend the 76th session of the U.N. GA in Sept and other major int’l conferences to deliver a message of comfort and hope to young people worldwide. BTS also plans to facilitate diversity, environment, and equality around the world.”
