Vin Diesel has won a partial victory in a legal case filed by his former assistant, Asta Jonasson. On Tuesday, Judge Daniel M. Crowley dismissed four of Jonasson’s claims, stating they were filed too late under California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA).
Four Claims Against Vin Diesel DISMISSED
The judge explained that even though California passed a new law in 2023 to allow old sexual assault claims to be revived, it didn’t change the rule that required Jonasson to file a complaint with the state Civil Rights Department within one year. Since the alleged incident happened in 2010, she missed that deadline.
The claims that were dismissed include employment discrimination and similar charges. However, serious allegations like sexual battery, retaliation, wrongful termination, negligent supervision, and emotional distress are still active in the case.
Jonasson filed the lawsuit in 2023, accusing Diesel of sexually assaulting her during her time working for him in 2010. Normally, such an old claim would be invalid due to time limits, but the 2023 California law allowed cases of this nature to move forward if they happened on or after January 1, 2009.
Since some of her remaining claims are not affected by the requirement to first file an official complaint with the Civil Rights Department, those parts of the lawsuit will continue.
Vin Diesel’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, strongly denied the accusations when the case was first filed, saying there is clear evidence proving the claims are false.
Meanwhile, Vin Diesel is busy with upcoming movies, including Fast X: Part 2 and XXX 4, which are currently in different stages of production.
