If ‘Khandaani Shafakhana’ stuck true its name and revolved around funny doctor – patient conversations, it would have been a far better movie. Instead, the movie aims to start a revolution and gets lost in its own web.

The movie starts with Baby Bedi (Sonakshi Sinha) inheriting Mamaji’s (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) sex clinic – ‘Khandaani Shafakhana’. Mamaji is a renowned hakim with a lot of loyal clients. His medicine effectively solves problems like erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. Sonakshi, despite not having the technical know-how, gets inspired and learns everything needed to run the clinic smoothly. Things obviously take a turn for the worst and the movie shows us how Baby Bedi fights against the regressive society.

When it comes to performances, Sonakshi Sinha brings her A-Game to the table. It’s her show from start to finish, but actors like Varun Sharma, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Annu Kapoor especially too manage to leave their mark. As far as Badshah is concerned, his acting is extremely loud and obnoxious (sorry fans). Even though he plays a role that suits him, he turns in a forgettable debut performance.

That said, the real villain of the film is it’s script. It beats around the bush, has too few jokes and struggles to keep things moving at a quick nip.

Shilpi Dasgupta’s direction too fails to hit the mark and other than extracting sincere performances from the actors, there’s nothing much that she does right.

Final verdict:

Watch only if you’re a die-hard Sonakshi Sinha fan.
