Kohrra Season 2 REVIEW
Netflix’s Kohrra returns with a second season that stays rooted in Punjab’s emotional and moral landscape, this time led by Barun Sobti and Mona Singh as they investigate a haunting murder in the quiet town of Dalerpura, Punjab.
The story begins with the discovery of Preet Bajwa’s body in her brother’s barn, setting off an inquiry that pulls suspicion toward her husband and even members of her own family. Like its predecessor, the new season blends crime with deeply personal turmoil, attempting to uncover not just who committed the crime, but why silence often surrounds it.
Barun Sobti reprises his role as Assistant Sub-Inspector Amarpal Garundi, now working under a new command structure and carrying emotional residue from the past. Mona Singh joins as Sub-Inspector Dhanwant Kaur, a composed yet firm investigator who leads the case alongside him. Their professional dynamic becomes one of the season’s emotional anchors, balancing restraint, empathy, and quiet tension.
What Works
Season 2 continues Kohrra’s strength of exploring relationships fractured by secrets, regret and unspoken truth. The writing leans into emotional realism rather than sensational twists, portraying how family structures can both protect and suffocate. The mood remains immersive, with the stillness of Punjab’s landscape mirroring the characters’ inner conflicts. Mona Singh’s authority and calm intensity add freshness, while the narrative’s focus on mature, complicated love gives the story thematic depth.
What Doesn’t Work
The pacing occasionally drifts, especially in the middle episodes where emotional beats repeat without significantly pushing the investigation forward. Some supporting characters feel under-explored, reducing the impact of certain reveals. The viewers expecting a tightly wound thriller may find the slow-burn approach uneven this time.
Technical Analysis
The cinematography retains the show’s muted, atmospheric palette, effectively capturing isolation and grief. Background score is restrained, allowing silence to heighten tension. The editing, however, could have been sharper to maintain narrative momentum.
Star Performances
Barun Sobti delivers a controlled, internalised performance as Garundi. He is communicating turmoil through silence rather than dialogue. Some part of his characters helps other grow in their space of work.
Mona Singh stands out with quiet authority, grounding the investigation with emotional intelligence. She also showcases the struggle of being mother stuck in her personal space yet dealing with the complication for her surrounding.
Rannvijay Singha brings believable ambiguity to the grieving husband, yet his role should have been a bit more in the series.
On the other hand, Pooja Bhamrrah’s presence lingers meaningfully despite limited screen time as the story surround on her case.
Supporting actors Anurag Arora and Prayrak Mehta add texture to the world. Their arc impact the story and build tension.
Conclusion
Kohrra Season 2 remains a thoughtful, performance-driven crime drama that prioritises emotion over shock value. While not as tightly gripping as the first season, it offers sincerity, strong performances, and a lingering sense of melancholy making it a measured but decent watch.
