Ohh My Dog Review

Set in the backdrop of Assam and Bhopal, Ohh My Dog attempts to be one such wholesome entertainer, blending friendship, family values and a lovable canine into its narrative. While the film has its heart in the right place and benefits from sincere performances, it never quite reaches the emotional highs it aims for. Instead, it settles for being a pleasant one-time watch rather than a memorable family classic.

The story revolves around a family whose lives change after their dog went missing and how a kid single handles goes over and beyond the boundaries of the society to save his dog. Parallel to this there is another story running through of a young child who forms an unlikely bond with a stray dog. What begins as an innocent friendship soon turns into an emotional adventure that uncovers the dark realities of both human and dog trafficking. 

Through their journey, the film explores themes of compassion, survival and the healing power of unconditional love. While the subject matter is powerful and relevant, Ohh My Dog struggles to balance its emotional core with a compelling screenplay, resulting in a well-intentioned drama that never fully realises its potential. 

Supported by sincere performances, especially from Pankaj Tripathi, Ohh My Dog has its heart in the right place but lacks the narrative depth needed to leave a lasting impact.

What Works

The biggest strength of Ohh My Dog is its simplicity. The film avoids unnecessary melodrama and focuses on delivering a clean family entertainer. The dog is undeniably adorable and becomes the emotional anchor of the story. Several scenes between the family members and their furry companion are genuinely heartwarming.

Ohh My Dog  also carries a positive message about kindness, responsibility and unconditional love, making it suitable for audiences of all ages.

What Doesn’t Work

The screenplay lacks freshness and follows an extremely predictable path. Most twists can be guessed well in advance, reducing the emotional impact. The narrative also struggles with pacing, especially in the second half, where several scenes feel stretched.

Despite having talented actors, the writing doesn’t give them enough emotionally powerful moments. The climax, which should have left viewers teary-eyed, instead feels rushed and underwhelming.

Technical Analysis

The cinematography beautifully captures the bond between the family and their pet, while the background score effectively supports the emotional scenes without becoming overwhelming. The editing, however, could have been tighter, trimming repetitive portions to keep the film more engaging. The production values are neat and family-friendly, but the screenplay remains the weakest technical aspect.

Star Performances

Pankaj Tripathi once again delivers a sincere and grounded performance. His effortless screen presence brings warmth to the film, even when the script fails to match his abilities. He makes ordinary scenes watchable through his natural acting.

Pawan Malhotra is dependable as always. He lends credibility to his character and delivers an honest performance despite limited scope.

Rajesh Kumar provides light-hearted moments and shares good chemistry in his negative role with the ensemble cast. His performance is pleasant, though underutilised.

Geeta Agrawal Sharma leaves a decent impression and adds emotional depth whenever the script allows her to shine as her screen time was limited.

Conclusion

Ohh My Dog is a sweet family entertainer with a lovable canine, positive messaging and reliable performances. However, its predictable screenplay, uneven pacing and lack of emotional depth stop it from becoming the touching family drama it could have been. It’s enjoyable enough for a relaxed weekend watch with children and pet lovers, but don’t expect an unforgettable cinematic experience which we saw in 777 Charlie.
