What Works

Technical Analysis

Direction

Mudassir Aziz has done a commendable job when it comes to directing Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. He makes sure the film is lighthearted comedy that will leave laughing for 120 minutes non-stop. Aziz knows what he wants to deliver and successfully bring the audience a film that’s- despite many thinking will be about cheating or polygamy, a clean, situation comedy.

Story & Screeplay

Written by Mudassir, the film is unlike any we’ve seen in this genre in the recent past. The screenplay – co-written with Ravi Kumar, is refreshing, interesting and crisp, making the hilarious situation deliver laughter and also teeny tiny bits of suspense. However, the only drawback when it comes to this department is that some dialogues fail to land as wanted. And it’s not totally the writing being at faulth but also how it was delivered.

Editing & VFX

Ninad Khanolkar deserves praise for keeping the film short and sweet and not dilly-dallying with unnecessary slow-mos and who-what-why-when shots. The VFX by Red Chillies is spot-on and the CGI animals in the forest – cheetahs, wolfs, deers and more, appear real and not like some AI crap we’ve been ‘treated to’ several times in the past.

Music

Ketan Sodha’s background score works wonders for the narrative and elevates the tension while also supporting the brainrot goofiness. The music – composed by Rajesh Roshan, Rochak Kohli, Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, Arslan Nizami, Neelkamal, Tony Kakkar, Lijo George, Badshah, and Devv Sadaana, is enjoyable. The songs adds another layer to the narrative, especially, Humne Wahin Lagaya Dil and Roop Di Rani.

Star Cast

Ayushmann Khurrana does what he does best—he plays panic with precision and makes you laugh every time he’s in trouble. His expressions carry the film’s chaos forward without feeling fake or trying-too-hard. Wamiqa Gabbi is natural and her calm, grounded energy helps keeps the emotional side of the story steady.

Rakul Preet Singh delivers a convincingly funny performance and manages to command the screen every time she appears. Sara Ali Khan emerges as a breath of fresh air and make heads turn whenever she walks into a scene. She manages to make the scenes more enjoyable without trying too hard, she just ends up becoming one of the film’s most consistent sparks. Her comedy works because it feels spontaneous.

Talking about the supporting cast, Ayesha Raza as Buaji is hilarious and can also be described as a scene-stealer.. Vijay Raaz – as always, delivers an exceptional performance, especially during the pre-climax. Tigmanushu Dhulia as Gajraj Tiwari – though still appearing as Gangs of Wasseypur’s Ramadhir Singh, elevates the drama exceptionally well.
