Tiger 3 Movie Review

The YRF spy universe is getting bigger and bigger. This year began with Shah Rukh Khan entering the universe with Pathaan. Then there were reports of War 2, a female spy film and Tiger Vs Pathaan. However, the OG spy of the universe, Tiger has returned this Diwali, and I must say it is the biggest firework this festive season.

Tiger and Zoya’s return was highly anticipated and Salman and Katrina didn’t disappoint. Emraan’s addition to the film just raised its bar. The franchise is known for its action, and even though the first half makes you doubtful, the second half assures you of that.

The great part about Tiger 3 is that it doesn’t rely only on the familiarity of the characters and its action. It truly brings out the humane side of its primary characters’ and makes it more than just an action film. The cameo(s) in the film are worth the hype, but I won’t ruin them by telling. Tiger 3 is all that a fan of the franchise could have asked for, and maybe more, and it’s surely going to take over the box office by storm too.

Story:

Tiger and Zoya are leading a normal domestic life but a mission to save a familiar face leads Tiger to an unsettling revelation. It leads him to Aatish Rehman (Emraan Hashmi), with whom he has a history. Aatish is here to exact revenge, and it leads Tiger to be framed as a traitor and India and Pakistan’s enemy number 1. Tiger and Zoya fight together to prove their innocence and save the peace between the two countries. But will they be able to do it?

What’s good about Tiger 3

Action: The choreography set pieces are a delight to look at. They are intricately designed and executed. But it is Katrina who is the scene stealer in every action sequence she is a part of. No other actress can do action as well as her. The famous hamam sequence is flawless. But even Tiger’s action pieces are perfect. The showdown between Salman and Emraan feels so raw.

Casting: The biggest plus point for Tiger 3 has to be it’s casting. Salman and Katrina as Tiger and Zoya have already imbibed the characters after doing 2 films in the series. But Emraan shines as the antagonist. I will elaborate on it later on, but he is so apt for the part because he brings an ease into it. The familiar cameos, and the new faces, all of them add to the story, and deliver impressive performances.

Tiger and Pathaan: It hasn’t been a secret that Shah Rukh Khan makes an appearance as Pathaan in Tiger 3. But the way he does it, just makes you whistle and scream from your seat. The sequence between Tiger and Pathaan has to be the highlight of the film. From his entry to the fight sequence, and especially the banter, it’s just wow. This generation of actors needs to learn from these superstars.

What didn’t work for Tiger 3

Music: The music in the first two Tiger films has been it’s strong suit. But in Tiger 3, the music lacks that conviction. There are only 2 songs, Leke Prabhu Ka Naam and Ruaan, and while both are good, they are not memorable.

First half: Tiger is an action franchise and it has built a reputation in the genre over the years. However, the first half of Tiger 3 seems more of a drama than action. The second half does fulfil the action quota, but the lack of it in first half seems a bit dragging.

Star performances

Salman Khan has personified Tiger as no one else could have done. The character seems like an alter ego of his. But what sets him apart this time is the rawness of emotions Salman brings to Tiger. He laughs, he cries, he feels betrayed, angry and each of that emotion comes out in its most raw form. Salman is unmatchable as Tiger and you expect nothing less from him.

Katrina Kaif: I will reiterate that no other actress does action better than Katrina. She is smooth as silk in her movements. The swag and style she brings is droolworthy. She is as ferocious fighting with a man as she is with a woman. The excellence she brings to Zoya is next level. Truly, Zoya is the heart of the Tiger series. But it has to be said again, there is nothing more amazing than seeing Katrina in action.

Emraan Hashmi is menacing as the antagonist. He isn’t like your everyday villain, full of rage and fury. What sets him apart is his calmness. He is calculative more than impulsive. He tests Tiger in the most crucial circumstances. Emraan is the perfect yin to Salman’s yang. You want his character to lose, but it’s Emraan’s earnestness that makes you like him too a bit.

Conclusion

I would end my Tiger 3 review saying that it is the perfect gift for this Diwali. Aditya Chopra has made the franchise even bigger and Tiger and Zoya’s return is banging. Tiger will always be the OG spy of the universe and Salman proves everytime why. Tiger 3 lives up to the hype and expectations and maybe more. The tiger has truly roared.
