Tu Yaa Main REVIEW
Tu Yaa Main attempts to blend romance, influencer culture and survival thriller into one high-stakes adventure. Starring Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor, the film presents a fresh spin on the original screenplay The Pool, turning a seemingly lighthearted love story into a tense fight for survival.
The narrative follows two influencers from completely different worlds Maruti Kadam aka AF (Adarsh Gourav), a street-smart boy from Nalasopara, and Avani Shah aka Miss Vanity (Shanaya Kapoor), a glamorous social media star. What begins as a strategic “love collab” soon turns into genuine affection, pushing them to take an impulsive adventure trip to Goa.
But the getaway quickly spirals into danger when their thrill-seeking detour traps them in a bloody deadly situation involving crocodile and the harsh unpredictability of nature. As survival becomes the only goal, the couple must confront not just physical threats as they are stuck in the pool but have also their own love insecurities and emotional truths.
What Works
Tu Ya Main succeeds in creating moments of tension and claustrophobia, especially during the survival sequences. The contrast between glossy influencer romance and raw wilderness danger keeps the narrative engaging. A few jump-scare moments land effectively, maintaining suspense through out the second half.
What Doesn’t Work
Despite an intriguing premise, the screenplay occasionally loses grip with its length. Some dramatic turns feel convenient rather than earned and the tonal shift from romance to survival isn’t always seamless in comparison from 1 and 2nd half of the film.
Technical Analysis
The film visually captures the pool and confined survival spaces with intensity, enhancing the thriller mood. The background music supports the tension, though editing in parts could have been tighter to sustain momentum.
What makes the momentum light is in between tracks Aankhein Chaar, Fame Us, Jee Liya and the old track which keeps haunting the situation ‘Tum Hi Hamari Ho Manzil My Love’.
Also, Bejoy Nambiar’s direction in Tu Ya Main is visually arresting and emotionally immersive, blending stylised storytelling with raw, intimate moments. He crafts a moody, layered narrative that keeps the tension simmering while allowing the characters’ vulnerabilities to quietly unfold.
Star Performances
Adarsh Gourav delivers a committed performance as Maruti Kadam, convincingly balancing vulnerability and resilience to his character. Even through the film had crocodile, Adarsh is becoming a chameleons with his every passing film, each year. He continues to prove his versatility, adapting smoothly to the film’s shifting tones.
Shanaya Kapoor shows confidence and screen presence as Avani Shah. She handles emotional and high-tension moments well, and her performance in the water-based survival scenes stands out, it felt like she is a mermaid who floated her best in each scenes.
Parul Gulati, Ansh Vikas Chopra, and Amruta Khanvilkar lend decent support, while the extended supporting cast including Mahira Sharma, Sanjay Appan, Amrutha Srinivasan, Rajat Kaul and Srikanth Mohan Yadav adds texture to the narrative world.
Even Jack, the dog (popo), leaves a small but memorable impression. And not to forget the star of the story the crocodile is what keeps you at the edge of your seat.
Conclusion
Tu Yaa Main is an ambitious mix of romance, tragedy and survival thriller that works best when it leans into tension and emotional conflict. It’s a great attempt to give the Indian audience an Hollywood feel thriller. While the storytelling falters in the pool, sincere performances and gripping moments make it a watchable, if uneven, cinematic ride.
