Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor

This year, the Cannes Film Festival got even more gorgeous as another actress from Bollywood made her debut at the prestigious event. Actress Deepika Padukone marked a smashing debut at Cannes this year with her elegant and classy fashion choices. Just like Aishwarya Rai and Sonam Kapoor, the actress is representing L’oreal this year and when you are representing the same brand as your contemporaries, comparisons are evident. While we all know that Aishwarya Rai and Sonam Kapoor have been walking the red carpet at Cannes for years now, it was a first for Deepika as she replaced Katrina Kaif in the L’Oreal brigade. But, in spite of being the first Indian actress to walk the red carpet at Cannes this year, the actress cannot avoid questions on comparisons with Ash and Sonam. Deepika reacted on these unwanted comparisons as she said to Mid-Day, “I feel it shouldn’t happen. This is an incredible platform to showcase our talent and represent a brand or movie. We all are such strong individuals and I don’t see any overlap.”

She further spoke about how Cannes perceives Indian cinema. Said Deepika, “Susan was talking about her son picked up a dance element from Indian films and incorporated in his film. I know all our movies are not just about song and dance. Though people are aware of the kind of films we make, there’s a lot to do in terms of educating them.” That’s right Deepika. Also, we love how she carried herself gracefully at the red carpet.
