On Sunday (17th January 2016), an FIR was lodged against actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui for allegedly assaulting a woman. The FIR was lodged at Versova police station. However, the actor wasn’t arrested till Sunday evening.

The complainant is the granddaughter of the secretary of the housing where Siddiqui stays. The dispute took place at the housing compound itself.

According to the complainant, She was present in the society at around 1.30 pm in the afternoon when a man came in on his motorcycle and tried parking it inside the compound. The security guards asked him not to park it there. Meanwhile on hearing the conversation, she came out and started taking photos through her mobile camera. However, the man left and at the same time Siddiqui came downstairs. He asked her not to take photographs and it led to a heated argument. The complainant stated that Siddiqui pushed her back, following which she called the police.

She also said that the actor earlier refused to accept a notice which was sent to him on the ground that he was acquiring more parking space than what was allotted to him.

“It is a false case. The case has been registered without investigation. It is a society issue which has been going on for a long time,” Pandey told PTI. “There was an argument, but no hathaa-pai (exchange of physical blows) as claimed in the complaint. We will take the matters up.”- stated the actor’s manager.

“We registered a case against Nawazuddin under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) based on the complainant’s version. As of now we have not arrested any person, and are in the process of verifying the facts.”- Arun Chavan, assistant commissioner of police, stated.

The actor’s representative also said that they have filed a cross-FIR against the woman.

“We have now filed a cross-FIR against five people who barged into our office yesterday (on Sunday). A woman has the authority to file the complaint first; so Heena took advantage of that. All the allegations against Nawzuddin are false allegations,” – he said.
