juhi chawla, aamir khan,

Original Ms bubbly, Juhi Chawla is celebrating her 56th Birthday today. She is one of the few Bollywood actresses who commands terrific comic timing and a vivacious on-screen presence. From the naive young lover in her debut film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak to wearing grey shades in Gulaab Gang, she has done it all. The actress has left everyone in awe of her dignified persona. As Juhi Chawla celebrates her Birthday, let’s have a look at the times she spoke about not talking to Aamir Khan for a petty disagreement, being pitted against Madhuri Dixit, and rejecting Salman Khan’s marriage proposal.

When Juhi Chawla recalled not speaking to Aamir Khan for 7 years

Juhi Chawla and Aamir Khan delivered several hits together. Sadly, after Ishq (1997), they haven’t worked together on-screen. Do you know why? Well, Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla had a major fight over a small issue on the sets of Ishq, because of which, they were not on talking terms. In a flashback interview, Juhi revealed, “He made me cry with his pranks, and after our last fight I got really mad at him and I didn’t turn up for shoot the next day, which made him very angry. We stopped talking to each other. Both of us felt that we were angry with each other, we assumed that now we won’t talk to each other ever. Obviously, we didn’t know what was going on in our head. We didn’t speak for about five to six years. Finally, I made the first move and went to meet him when there was something crucial happening in his life.” For those unversed, the crucial happening in Aamir’s life was his divorce from Reena Dutta.

Juhi reacts to rejecting Salman Khan’s marriage proposal

Salman in an interview praised Juhi and mentioned her father refused his marriage proposal. Juhi also revealed that she had refused to do a movie with Salman and he still teases about it. She reacted to the interview and mentioned, “Back in the day, when I had just started out in my career, and when Salman was not THE Salman Khan, a film had come my way that had him in the lead actor. In fact, I didn’t know anyone properly back then – not him, not Aamir (Khan) or anyone else in the industry. Incidentally, I couldn’t do the film because of some issue. And to this day, he doesn’t leave one chance to remind me of it! ‘You didn’t do the film with me,’ he keeps saying. We hardly worked on films together but we did a lot of stage shows. He had a cameo in Deewana Mastana.”

About her rivalry with Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla’s rivalry from the 1990s is well-known. The actresses were often pitted against each other which kept them away from working with each other. They finally shared screen space in 2014’s Gulaab Gang.

During Gulaab Gang’s wrap party, she spoke about the rivalry in an interview and confirmed, “We were rivals earlier. There was rivalry which remained for some years. We used to meet only on occasions like some film sets or functions. We would not talk beyond a ‘hello’, just used to exchange pleasantries.”

Infact, Madhuri’s mention was the reason Juhi rejected Raja Hindustani and the film went ahead to Karisma. Director Dharmesh recalled saying that he is not Sooraj Barjatya. He then said her, ‘You’re not Madhuri Dixit.’ On that little thing, she said no to the film.

She has even rejected Rishta where she was supposed to act alongside Madhuri. Talking about it, she had said, “I wasn’t sure that my role would be on par with Madhuri’s. I don’t have anything against Madhuri Dixit though. If I am pitted against her in a film, I don’t want to come out looking second best. Comparisons are bound to arise when we are seen together. So I just didn’t want to get into a chakkar.”
