Jana Nayagan CBFC Controversy: SC To Hear Plea Of Vijay Thalapathy’s Last Film Censorship Dispute On January 15- Report

The dispute over the CBFC certification for Thalapathy Vijay led Jana Nayagan has now reached the Supreme Court. The court is scheduled to hear the producer’s petition on January 15, challenging the Madras High Court’s interim order that blocked the film’s release. Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay in the lead role, was originally set to release on January 9, 2026, coinciding with Pongal celebrations this year. However, due to the pending CBFC approval, the release has been postponed, disappointing many fans and audiences. While the case is currently being heard in the Madras High Court, the filmmakers have now filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, contesting the division bench’s order.

SC To Hear Plea Of Vijay Thalapathy’s Jana Nayagan CBFC Censorship Dispute On January 15

According to PTI, the Supreme Court will hear the producer’s plea on January 15, challenging the Madras High Court’s interim stay on the single-judge order directing the CBFC to grant certification to the film. The Supreme Court’s cause list indicates that the case is likely to be heard on January 15, though the specific bench has not yet been assigned.

On January 9, the Madras High Court stayed a single judge’s directive for the CBFC to immediately issue a censor certificate for Jana Nayagan, leaving the film’s release in limbo. The film, which has attracted attention for its political themes, remains uncertain amid this legal standstill. KVN Productions LLP filed an appeal against the division bench’s decision last Friday. This put a hold on the single judge’s order to the CBFC to issue the certificate without delay.

Theri Re-Release Postponed

Following the uncertainty surrounding Jana Nayagan, the planned theatrical re-release of Theri has also been officially postponed. V Creations announced on social media, “As per requests from the producers of upcoming releases, we have decided to postpone the release of Theri.”

Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu addressed the media in Chennai. He explained that several films are targeting the same festive dates and that the producers of those projects had approached him directly regarding the scheduling.
