Prabhas is gearing back to the comedy genre with The Raja Saab. During the teaser launch event in Hyderabad, producer TG Vishwa Prasad responded to Aamir Khan criticising the current business model of the industry of releasing films on OTT a couple of weeks post-theatrical release.
TG Vishwa Prasad Reacts To Aamir Khan Criticising Industry’s Business Model
When asked, Aamir Khan recently spoke about the industry’s business model that releasing films on OTT is the reason why the audience skips watching the film in the theatre. To this, Producer TG Vishwa said, “There is no problem in the business model. If the content has the potential to drive the audience to the theatre, it will. There is no change in business model.”
Aamir Khan On The Industry’s Business Model
Aamir Khan has publicly criticised the current business model of the Hindi film industry, particularly the shrinking window between theatrical releases and their availability on OTT platforms. He argues that this model is flawed and contributes to the decline in box office collections. He believes that the industry is essentially telling audiences not to come to theatres by making films available on OTT too soon after their theatrical release. Khan clarified that he has nothing against OTT platforms as a consumer and acknowledges their value in providing access to a vast library of content for a small fee.
However, he believes that the current implementation of the theatrical-OTT release strategy is detrimental to the business model of the film industry. Even if films are of high quality, the current business model, according to him, is not conducive to success. He also highlighted the limited number of theatres in India compared to the population and the potential for improvement in infrastructure to support the industry.
