Case against Vijay Devarakonda for racist remarks

Actor Vijay Deverakonda has landed in legal trouble a month after making controversial remarks that offended the tribal community. He has been booked under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The Raidurgam police in Cyberabad have registered the case and started an investigation.

The complaint was filed by Nenavath Ashok Kumar Naik, a resident of Saidabad and State President of the Joint Action Committee of Tribal Communities, according to ANI. He raised objections to a comment Vijay made during the pre-release event of Suriya’s film Retro.

At the event, Vijay referred to the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir and said, “The solution to what is happening in Kashmir is to educate them (terrorists) and ensure they don’t get brainwashed.”

He added, “They behave like tribals did 500 years ago, fighting without common sense.” His comment caused outrage, as many felt it compared tribal communities to terrorists.

In response, Vijay issued a public apology. “There was absolutely no intention to hurt or target any community, especially our Scheduled Tribes, whom I deeply respect,” he said.

Earlier, lawyer Lal Chauhan also filed a complaint against the actor. He claimed that Vijay’s remarks linked terrorism to ancient tribal conflicts, which led to heavy criticism. On the work front, Vijay Deverakonda will next be seen in the film Kingdom.
