Vijay Thalapathy's Jana Nayagan Producer BREAKS SILENCE On CBFC Controversy

H. Vinoth’s Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan has been postponed from its scheduled January 9 release for Pongal due to delays in certification from the CBFC. In his first public statement addressing the ongoing legal dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) at the Madras High Court, producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions described the situation as “extremely difficult.”

Vijay Thalapathy’s Jana Nayagan Producer REACTS To CBFC Controversy

In a video message, the producer also expressed how Vijay deserves a proper farewell after decades of his illustrious career. He explained the legal hurdles involved. Venkat explained that Jana Nayagan was initially cleared for release after the filmmakers made the necessary cuts and modifications as suggested by the CBFC.

“The film was submitted to the CBFC on December 18, 2025, and reviewed by the examining committee. On December 22, 2025, we received an email stating that the film would be granted a UA 16+ certificate, subject to a few changes. We incorporated those suggested changes and resubmitted the film,” he stated.

However, while awaiting formal certification, they were informed that the film would be referred to a revising committee. “A few days before our planned release, on January 5, 2026, we were notified that the film had been referred to the revising committee based on a complaint. With limited time to respond and without knowing who the complainant was, we approached the Madras High Court,” Venkat added.

What Did The Court Say?

Following court hearings on January 6 and 7, Justice PT Asha directed the CBFC to grant certification to Jana Nayagan by January 9. However, after the certification board challenged this order, a division bench comprising Chief Justice MM Shrivastava and G Arul Murugan granted an interim stay against the single judge’s verdict. The matter was scheduled for further hearing on January 21. The producers had initially planned to release the film on January 14, but the legal complications have delayed those plans.

Vijay Deserves A Farewell, Says Producer

With the film’s release now uncertain—especially with the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections—Venkat described the situation as both emotionally taxing and challenging. “This has been an extremely emotional and difficult moment for everyone who has poured their heart, soul, and years of effort into this project. Above all, we believe that Thalapathy Vijay sir truly deserves the farewell he has earned through decades of love and support from his fans,” he expressed.

The producer also apologized to fans, distributors, and exhibitors who had anticipated the film’s release, acknowledging that the delay is “beyond our control.” It remains uncertain when Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol, will hit theaters. Meanwhile, Vijay is preparing to contest in the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections with his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
