Sana Makbul’s health has taken a serious turn as she has been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis. She has begun immunotherapy and is focusing on her recovery. Her well-wishers were concerned after her friend Aashna shared a photo of Sana from her hospital bed. Sana revealed that her condition has worsened significantly, as she is now battling liver cirrhosis, a severe progression of autoimmune hepatitis she has been managing for some time.

In an interview with HT, Sana explained, “I’ve been living with autoimmune hepatitis for a while, but recently my condition deteriorated. My immune system started attacking my liver more aggressively, and I’ve now been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis,” she shared. “But I’m trying to stay strong and taking it one day at a time.” She also mentioned that she has started immunotherapy, which she describes as intense and exhausting, but she remains hopeful.

“The doctors and I are doing everything possible to avoid a liver transplant. Immunotherapy is tough and tiring, and some days are harder than others. But I refuse to give up. I just want to recover without needing such a major procedure,” Sana stated. She added, “Some days I cry, other days I laugh, but every day I try. Healing is a journey, and I’m learning as I go.”
Her recent flare-up was acute, though her condition hadn’t worsened suddenly overnight. “I’ve been managing this for a while, but recently, it flared up badly, which has made me pause my work commitments,” said the 32-year-old actor. “I’ve had to put some things on hold, and honestly, it’s heartbreaking because I’ve worked hard to reach where I am. Now, my health isn’t in the best shape,” she shared. “I may be moving slower right now, but I’m still moving forward, and that’s what counts.”

Sana On Emotional Challenges With Liver Cirrhosis
Beyond the physical toll, Sana openly discusses the emotional challenges of living with a chronic illness as an independent woman. “It’s emotionally and mentally draining, especially when you’re the one responsible for keeping yourself going, both financially and personally. But I keep reminding myself this is just a phase. I have to be extra careful now. Life isn’t the same anymore, but I want to live fully. I believe I’ll come out stronger — I’m a fighter,” she affirmed. Sana also spoke about her family’s support during this difficult time.
“My family has been my anchor through all of this. I think sometimes it’s harder for them to watch me in pain than it is for me to endure it. They’ve seen me break down,” she shared. “My mom doesn’t say much, but her silence is filled with strength. My dad puts on a brave face, even when I know he’s worried. They’ve never let me feel alone, even on the toughest days. Healing isn’t just about medicine; it’s about feeling loved.”
