Delhi Crime Sanjay Bishnoi Emmy win

Actor Sanjay Bishnoi was seen in Netflix series ‘Delhi Crime’ where he played Akash, the victim’s friend who was travelling with her and was witness to the incident. The show helmed by director Richie Mehta bagged the best drama series honour at the 48th International Emmy Awards.

Sharing about his excitement on this big win Sanjay says, “One can never predict a clear win on world-renowned stage like Emmy, but then we all knew that we are part of something great. We were invited at Sundance film festival and later when we got a nomination for Emmy, the hope was there that this might come our way. This is a huge recognition for the show and vision of our brilliant director, Richie Mehta, and an incredible team of great actors, producers and the entire crew of the show. I am extremely happy and overwhelmed with this win and the response to the win. Everyone is talking about it and this is a historic win for our country as well. This being the only show which has won an Emmy on such a big stage. I am happy for what it represents and mean to the show and to all of us. I am sure because of this recognition many people will watch the show and that is the ultimate purpose of any show and the message of the show will reach far and wide. That’s the need of the hour especially for a show like ‘Delhi Crime’.”

Throwing light on the impact the role created on him he shares, “There are few projects and stories which completely shakes you and makes you question everything around you. I have always been politically and socially aware and I have an opinion about most issues but to talk about a topic like this is never easy. This show has forced me to be sensitive to things happening around me and contribute to a solution or at least empathise with the people involved in such tragic circumstances. We have a very disturbed society and unfair balance in it. It’s our responsibility to contribute towards a solution if we want a fair society. I am two doing major films post ‘Delhi Crime’, I can’t reveal the details at this stage. But this all came to my way cause of ‘Delhi Crime’.”

His film ‘Ashok Vatika’, recently released on MX Player.
