Ektaa R Kapoor To Expand The Naagin Franchise On The Big Screen? Here’s What We Know

Following the success of her television series Naagin, Ektaa Kapoor is now in discussions to bring the franchise to cinemas. Actress Shraddha Kapoor is also set to play a shape-shifting serpent in her upcoming project. Naagin, Ektaa Kapoor’s popular TV show, has generated significant buzz on the small screen. The latest season, Naagin 7, aired last year with Priyanka Chahar Choudhary portraying the shape-shifting serpent and enjoyed a successful run. Now, Kapoor appears ready to expand the franchise into the realm of big-screen entertainment.

Ektaa R Kapoor To Expand The Naagin Franchise

Ektaa Kapoor is renowned for creating iconic TV serials such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, and Kasautii Zindagii Kay. Naagin is among her creations that captured the imagination of Indian TV audiences, prompting its revival for its seventh season in 2025. Given the show’s immense popularity and fan following, Kapoor is exploring the possibility of adapting it into feature films for the cinema.

According to an industry insider, “Balaji Telefilms is in conversation to potentially expand the Naagin franchise beyond television. Given the brand’s long-standing popularity and cinematic scale, the makers are exploring the possibility of adapting the franchise into feature films, with an aim to reimagine the mythology for the big screen.”

Kapoor’s Approach To Casting

While the plan to transform Naagin into a film is still in its nascent stages, speculation is already brewing about who will take on the iconic role. Kapoor is known for her meticulous casting process, often conducting extensive searches for the lead each season. She pays close attention to styling, costumes, and other production details. Currently, Naagin 7 stars Priyanka Chahar Choudhary in the lead role.

Other ‘Naagin’ Projects In Development

Apart from Kapoor’s potential film adaptation, other Naagin projects are also underway. Producer Nikhil Dwivedi is reportedly working on reviving the folklore with Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role. Meanwhile, director Karan Johar is producing a fantasy comedy titled Naagzilla, featuring Kartik Aaryan as Preyamvadeshwar Pyare Chand, a shape-shifting snake. This film is scheduled to release on Nag Panchami, August 14, 2026.
