Indian Idol 12 has been entertaining fans by depicting the versatility of music since day 1. The show has given us many touted singers and recently raked in criticism on social media after the episode where Kishore Kumar special aired. Fans on Twitter felt that the episode did not do justice to the singer’s legacy. Aditya Narayan, the host of Indian Idol 12, opened up on the same and said that he feels the criticism is a result of all the pent up frustration amongst youngsters as the Indian Premiere League (IPL) was suspended.

In an interview with Bollywood Spy, he quipped that with lockdown in place and cricket league suspended, fans have too time in hand and using this to remove their frustration. “I think do-teen hafte pehle IPL band hogaya. Uska saara gussa humpe nikal rahe hain (The IPL ended a couple of weeks ago. They are venting their anger at us). Mummy papas have taken over the remote and they are watching Indian Idol 12,” Aditya Narayan told.

He added, “So our younger generation is unhappy. They don’t know where to vent their anger. Including myself, I feel this void too. As soon as it struck 7-7.30, I would get on it. I even made those cricket teams on phone apps. Over the last year and this year too, we are consuming anything that comes on TV a little too fervently. Only because we have too much time right now,” he shared.

It was not just the fans on social media, but even Kishore Kumar’s son, RJ Amit Kumar criticised the show. He said that he did not like the call and was told to praise the contestants. On this, Aditya commented, “He’s a senior member of the fraternity, almost older than my father. I have nothing to say to Amit Ji in particular. Every time he has come to the show, he’s always had a good time. I think in last two seasons, he has come 2-3 times. So I don’t know what happened so suddenly.”
