Alok Jain, JioStar On OTT Blurring Lines Between TV And Film Actors
Speaking about whether OTT has reduced the long-standing gap between TV actors and film actors, Alok Jain agreed without hesitation. He explained that the rise of streaming platforms has significantly expanded the creative ecosystem. “Oh, absolutely,” Jain said. “I think more opportunities have come for TV actors. Many mediums have come. There are different formats which OTT offers compared to TV.”
According to him, the biggest shift lies in the sheer variety of formats now available. Earlier, actors had limited paths to choose from. “So, there are more opportunities for actors and the creative ecosystem. Earlier, there were only two things. You could do TV or film.”
However, OTT has disrupted that rigid structure. “Now, you can also do OTT-type content. So, there are more opportunities,” Jain noted, highlighting how actors today can move fluidly across platforms without being boxed into a single medium.
Alok Jain On OTT Stars
When asked whether TV serial actors are now being consciously designed and marketed as OTT stars, Jain offered a measured response. “I do not know much about this,” he said candidly, choosing not to speculate on branding strategies.
Instead, his focus remained on the broader shift in storytelling and access. The growth of OTT, he implied, has naturally allowed talent to be discovered, experimented with, and accepted across formats, without the traditional hierarchies that once defined the industry.
In conclusion, Alok Jain’s perspective reflects a larger truth about today’s entertainment space: OTT has democratised opportunities. By breaking format barriers and expanding creative possibilities, streaming platforms have allowed actors, whether from TV or films, to find new audiences and redefine their careers on their own terms.
