The lockdown has brought some of the old classic shows back into our living rooms. People these days are glued to their idiot box as they are reliving the old memories of watching their favourite shows like ‘Ramayan’ and ‘Mahabharat’ with their entire family. However, actress Roopa Ganguly was reminded of a near-fatal attack on her in 2016, when she was attacked by a group of unidentified people.

After watching the ‘cheer haran’ scene in the reruns of ‘Mahabharat’, Roopa Ganguly recalled the gruesome attack on her that took place in 2016. Remembering the incident, the actress took to her Twitter account and wrote, “Since the last few days, I have been remembering the Diamond Harbour incident of May 22, 2016. Around 17-18 people, with the help of the police, dragged me out of the car and beat me up brutally on the road. I did not die. I am a rally driver, managed to get out.”

Back in 2016, Roopa had said in an interview, “The women were beaten up severely. We were going to rehabilitate our party activist who was attacked earlier. They attacked us with bricks, flung us to the ground, tore our clothes and beat us. It was a well-planned attack. We are still traumatised.” The actress is a member of Bhartiya Janta Party.

Roopa had suffered serious head injuries post the deadly attack on her at Diamond Harbour in Kolkata. Another story that has surfaced now is that during the shoot of the ‘cheer haran’ scene, Roopa had ended up crying. So much so that everyone present on the sets had to console her for near about half an hour to make things normal.

Coming back to the show, BR Chopra’s ‘Mahabharat’ is being re-telecast on DD Bharati.
