Being a television actor is not usually an ideal situation when you want to be a film star. The divide between a television and film star is very much evident even though many actors like Sushant Singh Rajput, Vidya Balan, Mouni Roy and others have broken it. Talking about successful television actors, we sat down for a candid chat with Nakuul Mehta who is currently owning the TV screens as Ram Kapoor in Bade Acche Lagte Hai. Nakuul revealed on Xtraordinary You that he didn’t want to be a television actor initially given the generic perception of the medium.

Nakuul told Bollywood Bubble, “In India, no one grows wanting to be India’s top television star. I think especially when you are growing up also I think your world view is limited, it was my own juvenile thinking. Everyone wants to be like the factor, the theatre actor. But I think life thought me that you need to be a working actor. What’s the reason you’re acting? You’re acting literally to reach out to people.”

The actor further continued that he happened to land in television, the medium not being his initial choice, but it was a whole new space that opened doors to a wide reach, “I think I stumbled upon television, it wasn’t my first choice, but having stumbled upon it and seeing the beauty of this reach and also the beauty of being able to live every character. I realized that this is such a powerful medium. I absolutely love it, adore it. For me, this will always be a priority over every other medium as long as I have good stories to tell. I love television and I think no other medium could give me the satisfaction that this has given, or given me the reach to express myself. I could have done a Too Much Democracy without being a television star and no one would have heard it.”
