Smriti Irani, well-known as both a television star and a politician, is set to make a comeback with the reboot of the iconic show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The show first aired in 2000 and quickly became a favourite for many households. It ran for eight years and is still remembered as one of the most loved shows in Indian TV history.

Smriti clarified that acting is no longer her main focus. Speaking to NDTV, she said, “[Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi] is a side project… I am, very humbly so, the most recognisable face out of that mix of people, but I am a full-time politician and a part-time actor. Just like many politicians who are part-time lawyers, teachers, or journalists. I just happen to be doing it simultaneously, which is difficult to grasp. I am just the one in the spotlight.”

Smriti has been active in politics for over a decade. A senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), she served as a member of Parliament from 2011 to 2024. She represented Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha (2011–2019) and later won from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, serving in the Lok Sabha (2019–2024).

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi will return on July 29 at 10:30 PM on Star Plus and JioCinema.
